Does anyone have a believable patter line/justification for switching from a blue deck to a red deck in the middle of a show or performance - even if it is separated by a non-card trick, because they will still wander why you switched it if you don't tell them first.

I think almost everyone starts out by keeping gimmicked decks one colour and their straight decks the other. When you do this you will hit this type of problem.

The way I used to get around this was to make sure I did a trick that required two decks. Its quite natural to use two different coloured decks in this circumstance in order to differentiate them.

For example I would have a RED prediction pack sitting in a wine glass, while I performed with a BLUE deck. Because I tend to reveal the prediction card last (from the RED deck), I can pick up the BLUE deck clean up and potentially reset while the audience is misdirected by the final revelation of the prediction, which I would let them do. From this point you can carry on with the BLUE deck or put it back in your pocket and start using the RED. With this method I can carry out a two color deck switch right in front of the audiences eyes.

Now I tend to mix and match my deck colours as I go and don't worry about it so much.
EDIT: In other words, I dont stick to my gimmicked decks being all BLUE.

Did that make any sense at all?

I've just seen an advert on one of the sites that sell everything a boy could want and they have boxer shorts with pockets - there you are problem solved, you can keep you gaffed bits in your underwear!

You can even keep your elephants in them!

Happy Christmas all :-)

I really don't see the need for using different coloured decks. I suggest using all the same colour and using a sharpie to mark the box of each deck. A simple R would tell you it was a regular deck, ID for ID etc. In my experience this is never noticed by the specs and makes life much easier.

I've never used this concept, I just enjoy using a variety of colours. I've got all of the fashion decks (pink, blue and green reversed colours), black tigers, tally ho vipers, black and green backed. Pretty much everything but the elephant deck. Of course I generally have more standard blue and red decks than anything. And they work well when I wanna switch for a gimmicked deck.

This works well with your magic because I know you do alot of non card tricks, which works well for switching decks from your "gun case" (That one always makes me laugh).

Don't tell them about my gun case

Though actually it's the same system Craig uses. As time goes on you end up with an awful lot of decks, it's the best and easiest way of identifying what the hell they all are.

Sorry I misunderstood what you were saying. Was my suggestion for a in full view switch useful?

Sorry - yeah I think thats a good way to do it. It's practical, it's reasonable - what more do you need. I'd say it's perfectly believable to use one deck for stuff, bring out another for a two deck trick, then carry on using the new deck when you go back to one deck tricks. Anyone got any other suggestions?

I think that one's pretty good. Thanks pdjames.
