Blaines next trick "DIVE OF DEATH"

Postby MagicDave » Nov 6th, '03, 14:48

Just read this on Freeserve :

David Blaine says he will plunge hundreds of feet from a helicopter into a river for his next stunt.

Blaine said only a few people had survived a fall from such a height and admitted it could go terribly wrong.

He said he hoped to do the stunt on April 4 next year, his birthday, if he could prepare in time.

Although he did not give the location, he said he would soon do his first practice jump, a 110ft plunge.

In his first major interview since the end of the box stunt, Blaine said: "The next thing I am going to do is a crazy one.

"I can tell you it has to do with me falling from a helicopter into a river. It's called 'dive of death'. It will be from such a tremendous height there's only a couple of people who lived from that height, it is like hitting pavement."

Speaking on Larry King Live he said there would be no parachute and "no dummy either - it will actually be me".

"If you go in a little bit off if your body is not perfectly straight - you do not pierce the water right, you rip your ligaments off, you're paralysed, anything can go wrong," he said.

What do you think?

What do I think? I think he's doing his best to recover some credibility over the Tupperware box in the air fiasco!

As has been said so many times, and will no doubt be said many times more, Why? Why bother? Why not get back to doing some of his good magic? I suppose he knows what he's doing but, as one guy recently survived going over Niagara Falls without any padding or similar protection, dropping from a great height is no longer a 'new' achievement. If he did the dive whilst doing a stunning Ambitious Card routine then that would be more interesting. But only a little bit more.

(By the way, did you know you were Happy Toad's identical twin? Separated at birth, Prince and Pauper stuff no doubt!)

Same stuff but from sky this time :

AND FOR MY NEXT TRICK...

Magic man David Blaine has unveiled his next stunt - plunging hundreds of feet from a helicopter into a river.

Having recovered from his 44 days in a box near Tower Bridge, the illusionist is keen to get back to work.

He told US chat show host Larry King the river plunge would be done without parachutes.

He said: "The next thing I am going to do is a crazy one, it's called a 'dive of death'.

"If you go in a little bit off if your body is not perfectly straight - you do not pierce the water right, you rip your ligaments off, you're paralysed, anything can go wrong."

Blaine has pencilled in his next birthday, April 4, as the date for the attempt.

He said he nearly quit his box in London when his water supply was damaged by a spectator.

And he understood why people had taunted him, because "it's just a guy sitting in a box".

But despite the risk to his life, he vowed: "I'm going to keep doing these things as long as I can.

"That's what I feel my reason is."

David Blane Has Got Very Bad Internal Damage Where His Internal Organs Have Shrunk Due To The Lack Of Use, I Do Not Think He Can Do This Stunt For At Least A Year Maybe Two.

So organs shrink through lack of use? That explains a hell of a lot!

(And before anyone gets smutty, I'm referring to people not using their brains - so there!)

dive of death...... I think he's a bit behind the times, I suppose while he was sitting in his box he missed out on that bloke who took a dive over Niagara Falls.... jumping from a helicopter is just a bit too tame!
cheers

Ah but will there be mustard on the ham and, if so, what kind of mustard - English, French, American etc? Come to think of it, he's a big enough ham anyway so let's just go order the mustard!

Yea I appear to have a profound almost magical effect on new users, earlier in the week we had someone use happy as the first part of their handle, on the very same day on another board I use another happy guy, now we have someone utilising the same avatar I use, I take it all as a very big compliment

It's a very controversial subject but isn't intended to just slate the guy - he has some real talent and I for one bitterly regret that he's changed direction into these stupid stunts. If he did them to promote a forthcoming tour, or the launch of a new item it would almost be understandable. Having said that, it's up to him what he does but since he's associated so closely with magic, and is usually referred to as a magician, a street magician, illusionist etc, he's going off course a bit. He's still a talented bloke so it's a shame we don't see his true skills more often.

I suppose the real niggle is that whatever he does, we still spend a lot of time talking about him!
