Magic Colouring Book

Postby vats » Nov 13th, '03, 13:58

Hi

want an effect that guarantees an great reaction? - great for kids but adults love it to ..... well look no further

Effect

You display a clown colouring book and flip through the pages, showing them all completely blank. But what good is a colouring book without any pictures?

Time for a wave of your magic wand....

You flip through the book again, now all of the pages contain black and white outlines of clowns and circus animals!
hmmm. not bad but how about some colour?

Time for a wave of your magic wand.... or maybe a sprinkle of magic dust

You flip through the book once more and now all of the pictures are in full colour!

.... just watch the reactions!

Cost - Under a tenner

Difficulty - 1
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

Opinion

Well, I love it... it's so simple and the reactions are great!... and above all that its fun to do... as part of a kids show you can take it as far as you want.... hand out some crayons, get someone up to help you... magically lose the crayons... and then go for it.....

http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=2197

and as a real kicker you can also buy an ungaffed version which you can then pass around to completely dumbfound people.... search emagictricks (although it's not currently in stock)

Should you buy one?

Well, it's a big book (A4) size, so it's not great for impromtu down the pub stuff.... works better as part of a show... If you do any tricks for children then it is a must have... otherwise if a tenner is just loose change to you then just get it for fun....

Cheers

yes this is one of the classics of kids magic. If you are a professional doing kids shows (I would be surprised if you don't have one), or just want to impress your own kids, nieces, nephews, grandchildren etc - then this is well worth the money.

handy hint though. Don't leave it out in the rain. :(

i have the stamp book version which is also great for kids, you also get some stamps to vanish into the book, great fun.

If your doing the colouring book as part of a kids show then the disappearing crayons are worth adding to this trick.

They also cost under a tenner at £8.95 and are available:

http://www.emagictricks.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=3802

Again very easy to use 1/5 but like the book neither are examinable before or after. Unlike the book the crayons will cope with a bit of rain as long as they are first removed from the packet.

Additional info:
Check out Colouring Book Magic by Rob Stiff which is available in various sizes such as:

Extra Large 11" x 17" @ £10.00
Large 8½" X 11" @ £6.00
Medium 7" X 5¼" @ £5.00
Small 5" X 3¾" @ £3.50

Have a look at the Small Tricks section of http://www.cards4magic.co.uk/ but also check via http://www.bargainmagic.co.uk and/or your favourite supplier for comparisons.

I bought both the small and the large as each size is suited to different circumstances and they both work equally well.

(At the time of writing, no information is available regarding rain resistance!)

most colouring books have a plastic coating similar to playing cards on there jackets so are reasonably splash proof / rain drop resistant, the pages however are generaly just paper so don't drop it in a puddle. :P

The ones I bought have a shiny surface and look as though they'd resist a little water but I'm not going to try them out just in case. For indoor dry area use only!
