News to me Sir! When we were in Interlaken in June they were getting ready for the annual open air production of Tell but nobody mentioned middle names. Mind you, the guy playing the part of Tell was wearing a rather neat rough woven skirt so I'm prepared to believe you!

of course the other interesting fact about William Tell (or "Candy" to his good friends) was that it was actually a lemon that he shot off his sons head.

and not many people know that (to be read in your best Michael Cane voice, whilst pushing up your glasses with the tip of your right index finger)

Oh dear, I can hear the Swiss Navy mobilising on a revenge mission whilst we speak. Fortunately it's a bit difficult to row across France so they may be a while yet and we can all escape to safety.

(Thus saying, Mandrake leapt aboard his trusty Aardvark and galloped off into the sunset. He returned even more swifly moments afterwards as his braces had got caught on the doorknob.)

Swiss? William Tell wasn't Swiss. :? Oh I see where you're coming from. You thought I meant 'that' William tell.

No, No, No - I meant the William Candice Tell from Basingstoke. You know, the 17th century magician - he did a lot of tours around the South of England in the late 1700's. In fact I even believe Samual Pepys wrote about him.

If I remember correctly he did one too many tours and died of stress. I think there was even a song about it called 'The William Tell Over Tour'

Let's see - that song would have been written by a very skinny employee at an americian national park. In fact many people think that the song is actually called the 'Theme to the Bone Ranger' - but of course they are wrong...

Confusion is only the starting point! I seem to recall hearing about that tour. Stradivarius himself provided the backing music until about half way through when the whole crew went to eat in a local pub/hostel which was absolutely filthy, awful sanitation and cockroaches running all over the place. Stradivarius stormed out saying, 'What a vile Inn'
