when i do the secret move, the instant they disconnect people realise they arent together (and they think thats the trick)

so instead of the illusion being the bands melting through each other, it looks like i have a method if just separating them

The secret is to show the seperation a while after the move. Do the move when the bands are stretched out - while you're showing them that they're behind each other. That way the heat is on where the two bands join.

Don't know if that makes any sense - it's hard without giving too much away. I'd suggest getting hold of Michael Ammars version - either as a stand alone product or in one of his books or manuscripts (The magic of Michael Ammar is an excellent buy). Even if you know 'the move' it's worthwhile to see how he describes it.

You could also focus on the optical illusion aspect of it - when the bands are back together after being stretched, comment on how difficult it is to tell whether they're behind or in front.

A freind of mine breaths in and then exhales as the bands are seen to melt through each other. This has quite an eerie effect - difficult to describe it here.

Anyway - hope that helps.

I was going to say exactly the same as Taneous.

Show that the elastic bands have seperated a while after "the move" and to do the move whilst showing the "impossibility" of making them melt through each other.

I found you do have to control the elastic bands a little so they dont instantly flick apart after the move.

If you use patter, keep the patter going whilst you do the move and just before you show that they have parted.

Something i do - Keep "wriggling" (a little) the elastic bands close together whilst they are "apparently" linked (just after the move)

That bit about "wriggling" may sound a load of gobble-dee-goop and rubbish but i know what i mean!

Paul Daniels suggests using just one elastic band to penetrate the stem of a wine glass. You have a spactator put one hand over the mouth of the glass and the other over the base (so the glass is sandwiched between their hands). You then show that the band can't penetrate the top, or the bottom and of course not the stem ... oh wow - it has.

This is the method I use and am very happy with. Hope it works for you.

Actually that handling was NOT that good!! sorry but he actually pushed the bands the wrong way, after the event, very basic mistake and dead give away! read Micheal Ammar, covers everything very well.

Cheers,
John

The layperson doesnt notice that he pushed the bands the "wrong way" though. When I say "smooth", I meant it was fast and effective and the layperson was still baffled. I have seen much better performances of it but I just happened to be on that page when I saw this topic :D

Something else that's quite effective is to use the same method - but with a ring and rubber band (wedding band and rubber band). This can be followed up by that effect by Daniel Garcia (I think that's who it is) where the ring comes off the band in a person's hand.

The Idea behind this effect... as many have said already is to melt the bands apart. This is done with time misdirection stopping people from assuming you did a move at all.

One of the main points to stop people realising the bands have seperated is firstly, not to put any pressure on either band. If you do, the bands will belly in the middle which if they were still connected would be impossible. The other point is to keep the bands moving in a constant motion. Move the "top" band up and down backwards and forwards side to side, using the tips of your fingers as buffers. This is very deceptive and keeps up the imression that the bands are still linked.

Hope this helps mate!!!

Alright everyone here has given good advice but i think i know the exact problem you had a I had the same one too for the longest time.

When you do the "Move" you want to pump them out and stretch patter about how they cant penetrate then as your going to unstretch them back together thats when you release. I don't think this is revealing too much if so mandrake please edit and i'll just PM Him.
