Wisdom Tooth Extraction

Postby moonbeam » Oct 2nd, '06, 18:51

Got back from dentist an hour or so ago after having a wisdom tooth pulled  and I'm a bit bored (plus the anaesthetic has almost worn off too :? ), so I got the missus to take a piccie of the dentist's handywork - note the hole

To be quite frank, with it being the wisdom tooth, I was expecting alot of pain, and alot of tugging and I certainly didn't expect the dentist to get it out so quickly...... hmmm ..... that could certainly be misconstrued by certain TM members.

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

I was lucky enough to have 2 of mine out under a general anaesthetic!

It was growing horizontally rather than vertically meaning it had to be cut in two first and I had to have bone removed aswell so I guess thats an Ok reason :D There was also no pain. Even luckier!

I really wish I hadn't read this thread now as I have to have a root canal done soon. Seeing damage like that... yeesh. I just hope I can even make it to the dentists... let alone sit through the three hour (yawn) root canal

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

psssh. that hole is NOTHING. i got mine about a month ago and FINALLY the hole is closing up, i think they screwed up on tooth on the bottom. so there was this gigantic hole, btw KEEP IT ICED AT ALL TIME. it will reduce the swelling alot. i had no swelling cause i iced my face right as i got home,

oh wait. you only had 1 tooth pulled.
lucky... i had all 4 and it was about 20 mins, it was pretty fast

?!~

not wishing to showboat, but i had 4 normal teeth removed when younger to allow my four wisdom teeth to pop on through...

i still have the original teeth, incased in salt in a small container....dont quite know why i kept them...i suppose i can always have them implanted when i start losing them when i get older...

Last year, I had a wisdom + adjacent tooth taken out. The complication was, the ROOT of the adjacent tooth was inside my nasal cavity... after extraction, the dentist noticed there was broken root in the cavity...

So after 10 mins of digging around, plus pain, plus blood, he finally freed and removed the dud root.

However, there was a hole left—a 'communication'—between my jaw and the inside of my mouth, and my sinus. Literally, when I swilled my mouth with water—it shot up into my nose.

When eating or drinking, I could feel and hear air rushing through the hole. Very unpleasant.

This went on for about 3 weeks, more pain, bruising, bleeding and infection.

Finally, I had to have the empty socket stitched, and a huge dose of antibiotics.

And now, all is well. I think.

But there you go, that's my horror story ;)

I've stopped going to the dentist. I've never had a toothache or sensitiveness or anything, yet whenever I went my dentist she insisted on drilling, filling or pulling teeth.

I think it was just so I thought I was getting my money's worth; that or she had something against my mum when they were at school together and she's taking it out on me.

i aint been to the dentist in over 3 years, no problems, my wisdom teeth are fine and my over bite is slight and the only problem ever was caused by a hocky stick to the gob (by a good mate) Cut my tooth in half (you could see the nerve wiggling in the cold air)
and since then one tooth ache due to a splinter in my gum lol!

The best bit is, I initially went into the dentist complaining of toothache, so he examined me and took x-rays etc and came to the conclusion that the tooth needed to come out. I was ok with it and said something along the lines of, "ok when can you fit me in?" To which he replied, "I can pull it now if you like!"

All I kept thinking was, "there ain't no way I'm having my tooth pulled on a Friday - I'm going out on the beer and having a few games of pool tonight", so I made some pathetic excuse up and made an appointment for the following Monday. Looking back, I suppose it would have been better to have it pulled on the Friday and let the alcohol take its course later that evening.

Oh well ...... hindsight's a wonderful thing

I found out the scotch trick the first time I did my back in - putting a monitor in the back of a car. Jeeeeezus it was agony. I couldn't move without it being overwhelmingly painful. A GP friend of mine insisted that I keep moving as this is how you overcome it quickest, and it does free up the more you move. As soon as I could get dressed and get some shoes on he insisted that I make it a priority to go to the off licence and get a couple of bottles of scotch. The theory being that I'd be off for a week anyway and nothing my quack could prescribe short of poppy juice was going to touch the pain and get me moving as well as Strong Drink. The man's a genius.
