Card to wallet

Postby Mooch » Nov 12th, '06, 15:57

Hey,

I just came up with what I think is a new method for a card to wallet effect. The effect is totally impromptu and uses absolutely no gimmicks or gaffs. Here is a brief description:

A deck of cards is produced and shuffled. A card is selected by the spectator and returned to the middle of the deck. The cards are then shuffled again, but the spectator if you wish, and the card is lost in the deck. A magical gesture is then made over the deck and the card disappears from it. The performer then removes his wallet from his pocket, opens it and removes the spectator's selected card.

There are a couple of other things too, like the fact that the card can be signed, the spectator can shuffle the deck both times and both the wallet and card can be removed from your pocket and the wallet by the spectator. As far as I know the method for this is unique and not in use in any other products. However, the point of this post was to ask if there are any card to wallet experts here who think they have seen this before. If so, please let me know, and I'll send you the method to see if it is similar.

I'll try to get a video of the effect up sometime soon so you can see what it looks like.

Thanks for taking the time to read through all of this,
mooch.

Edit: Sorry, I forgot to mention that there are no forces or anything either. Also, there really is only one card in the wallet, which is their signed card, and it can be in any of the pockets of the wallet too.

Edit 2: Just got a video of it up:

Sorry for the huge gap in the middle, I was talking to someone else and explaining what I was doing whilst I was going.

Okay where should i start first ...hmm.
I cant see any magic in this effect (from the video)
A patter instead of the bubblegum punk music would be way better!
The method of the top p**m is nothing new.In your video your hands are out of focus a lot,you should use misdirection like a ribbon spread on a table while the dirty work is done.
Iam using the same technique of the one handed top P**m (sometimes a bottom p***m depending on my mood) for my signed card to wallet effect, but i carry my wallet in the back pocket ....just for more cover for the dirty work ;)

So what i want to say is,you havent invented anything new...you discoverd just on your own a method which is very well known by the magis all over the world ;) You can try to improve it like i wrote some lines above.
Hopefully it helps.
greetings Jerry

Of course I know about the top palm method. This is different ;)

I'm sorry about the video, as I said I was explaining it to a friend at the time of recording, so posting the audio would kind of defeat the purpose of posting the video. My hands are out of focus for the same reason - explaining to my friend. The video was mainly there to help to show what the effect would look like, not for a rock-solid performance.

Thanks for the comment though,
mooch.

Yup, I wouldn't just do a top palm and claim it as a new invention.

Edit: I've removed the video for now. I'll try to get a decent one up soon, without the massive gaps and hands moving offscreen.

i like the idea of saying "mental magician" then just doing a card trick, ah well, that's not really the point now is it.
you shouldn't "dribble" cards like you did, either learn a dribble or a spring, would make that little bit look nicer.

can we get a video with patter and one where your hands don't go off screen while you do the TP please? otherwise you won't be any constructive comments really

I'm sorry, I thought I had said that I don't do a top palm at least once before. And again, the video was not meant to be a rock-solid demonstration of the effect, it was just to let you see the rough idea behind it.

My current site is pretty bad. I put it together a while ago, mainly so that I had something other than just a forum. The "mental magician" bit is because the majority of my effects tend to be considered more as mentalism than magic. However the videos I've posted on here have all been magic tricks, which is pretty ironic

Anyway, I'll try to get a half-decent video up soon. Please disregard/ignore this topic for now.
