I'm too thinking that your Spybot S&D is infected because, as Tomo said, it is completely open source which means people can download the exact code of the program and go through it letter by letter word for word. Also, download a good anti-virus like Kaspersky (although I would recommend NOD32 as I had a fatal error using Kaspersky which nearly killed my whole HD because apparently McAffee does not like to be installed...which in return...made me have 3 shell errors, explorer.exe not working and the blue screen of death . But of course that is just because I failed to completely uninstall...but I also hear that they have rootkits built into their A/V). I would also recommend getting "hijackthis" which makes a full report of everything that it scans so that I or one of my friends (or Tomo) can take a look at it to find the root (no pun intended) of the problem. It could be that someone infected you with a RAT and is downloading things using FF that has spyware, or a regular trojan/virus/rootkit that is falsely "accusing" FF of these terrible crimes . Honestly though, it is NOT FF, it is either a virus, a rootkit, any type of trojan, or just user misunderstanding :P.

It's OK Firefox, I still love you.

right everything is from direct source, firefox from mozilla, spybot from developer... and as for kaspersky forget it - I use zone labs ISS!!

the spyware only appears when firefox is installed and are shown to be tracking items which automatically disappear on the removal of firefox....

I don't doubt you believe what you are saying but I know what I am seeing and it is far to coincidental that these trackers disappear upon removal of firefox yet are consatntly present with firefox installed.

I am not a n00b.... I had problems earlier this year with configuration of zone labs not letting me remain logged in etc but that problem is resolved..... my pc is uber secure with internet security suite, adaware, spybot and spywareblaster installed...... I scan for spyware several times a day and I never get anything.... then I install firefox and all of sudden there is stuff there, uninstall it goes away, reinstall it ocmes back, uninstall it's gone again.

Spybot reports exactly where the bot is and it's always in firefox. I can't really be bothered to install it again.

Pc has been scanned both by ISS on hard drive and by online scanners and EVERY scan comes back with not even a whiff of viral activity so as I said whilst I don't doubt you believe what you are saying the fact is with firefox I have spyware without it I don't and will not be going back to it!

It's not worth arguin over so all I can say is it did not work for me - if it does for you then good luck but I dont want it!! :P :P

Could you tell us the names of the spyware that Spybot detects when you install FF , so that I can investigate it ?
I use both FF and Spybot at home and at my office ( I'm a software engineer) and never had such a problem.

i really can't be bothered to reinstall it again although I might after I activate the mozilla settings in spyware blaster.

Advertising trackers basically like media click......

Now bear in mind that the pc is clean and thorughly checked before firefox and then as soon as it's on there the trackers come up!!

Even tho I downloaded from mozillas site my friend is going to send me version before versh 2 so I can try that and see what happens!!

I'm not really knocking anyone that uses it but for me ANYTHING that deposits or allows to be deposited spyware I get rid of - including all those horrible nasty icons people use for MSN etc LOL

If I can be bothered later I'll turn on spyware blaster for mozilla and try again

Well, you're definitely getting false positives out of your anti-spyware code if it's a pukka Firefox. I think the question really is why.

for my money, summat rum's going on. :?

Quite possibly but if it is it'll be a brand new type of trojan etc... It must be a genuine firefox as it's direct from mozillas site and it's funny how 3 items of spy scannin (inc spyware scan in ZLISS) pick up items when FF is installed. But they don't when it isn't!! They can't ALL be wrong....

This disc is due a reformat and reimage so in the next week I'll do it and if I haven't tried FF again since then I will then when I know for absolutely sure that there is nothing "rum" going on ;)

Saying that Firefox is spyware infected in any way is absolutely NOT TRUE.
