PK ring in everyday life

Postby Mage Tyler » Nov 29th, '06, 23:49

I'm thinking of sometime down the line purchasing a PK ring, but I wanted to get a few opinions/answers about some things first:

- Is it feasible to wear the ring as an "everyday" ring?

- I'm aware that the PK ring should not be exposed to certain materials and objects - however, could it become a problem walking along and grasping railings and the like?

- Is the PK ring prone to chipping or damage that would make it not suitable for an "everyday" ring?

- Is there a good place to purchase an exact replica to the PK ring? This would be in case it is not suitable for an "everyday" ring, or, so that I can purchase the replica now and begin to wear it so that I may become accustomed to wearing a ring as well as accustom people around me to seeing me with it. It would not do to get a shiny new hand accessory and suddenly be able to cause objects to move.

Many Thanks,
- Tyler

Yes - I do

Not really - it's not particularly powerful. The only slightly noticeable 'problem' is when handling cutlery.

Don't let it come into contact with other similar materials and don't let it get wet (take it off when washing your hands. Also varnish it inside & outside to prevent your finger going green & to stop it losing it's shine.

I always wear the original. As for causing objects to move - it's really too weak for doing that convincingly. About the only thing I use it for in reality is a certain effect with watches

As a guide, I used to wear my Wizard ring every day for about 6 months (taking it off at bedtime).

Never a problem, except for putting your hand in your pocket to get change out in a shop and ending up with loads of 2 pence coins stuck to it!

I wouldn't recommend night-time wearing, as eventually the coating on these WILL come off, after hours of use. But wearing them in the day etc. and out and about, the ring will last for ages.

You ask about a replica?

The reason I've stopped wearing mine day-to-day is when I got married... my wedding ring looks JUST LIKE a silver PK ring! (It's a titanium wedding band).

Call me sad, I know, but even Costas (the inventor of the ring) saw my wedding band and called me a freak.

I dunno—I just got so used to wearing a Wizard PK, that I guess my ideal wedding ring looked the same!

Chipping? Well, put it this way, you CAN chip the ring, and if it comes into fast hard contact with something solid and dense—such as a tiled floor—it will shatter.

But frankly, it's so rare a problem I would say don't worry—just be sensible.

I've been selling Wizard rings for AGES now, sold probably about 200 or so, and had very few returns. And out of those returns, only 2 have ever been from chipping or breaking.

Many thanks for the replies!

Kevin, what type of varnish are you referring to? Is there any type that works particularly well? The effect with watches is one of the main effects that I would be using it for - Can you suggest any good reference material related to this?

Seige, I live in the US so the coins won't be a problem. Glad to hear your track record with the rings are positive. Hm, here I was talking about having a backup ring to the PK ring and you have a backup PK ring to your wedding ring -how clever! :D

One other question that occurred to me: as I mentioned above I'm looking forward to using this for a watch effect, but after Kevin's remark I'm concerned. Is this a one-trick-pony? Are there any good materials out there that cover a variety of uses for a PK ring?

Again, my thanks,
- Tyler

(Edited to remove a bigger hint than I had intended)

There are loads of uses! I believe there is a dvd coming out soon full of ideas for the ring. There are also some nice ideas on the official Wizard PK forum that you will gain access to. Really though, if you have a play around and use your imagination a bit, you'll surely come up with lots of things to do with it

The forum takes a bit of finding though, as it doesn't seem to be linked from the Wizard PK Ring website. Instead it's a protected part of the World Magic Shop site forum.

I do wear mine every day but be warned if you have an allergy to certain types of metals, it makes my fingers puff up despite varnishing it!
It's excellent for impromptu watch stopping and also for steals and you can reset coin unique almost under a spectators nose without them noticing a thing!
It's not strong enough to get you stuck to anything, though when I wear a Bat I do experience this problem as it's a lot stronger.
For the price, a PK ring is well worth getting. Coin in bottle is so easy to perform with one of these.

FYI...

I have a BLACK's Ring which I love BUT... seems that many in our world (myself included) are a bit lost as to why this idea is so cool... supposedly practical, et al.

The solution, as one of my "fans" put it, is for someone to collect a few dozen routines and write a book on working with Magnetic Rings e.g. anyone wishing to make a contribution to such a project, either PM or email me... I'm starting a folder

Sorry, we don't give out details of routines etc as they're the intellectual property of whoever developed them in the first place. However, with a bit of careful and relaxed thinking, you should be able to work out some basic ideas yourself - try using a UK 'copper' coin with a small cardboard or plastic cup such as those used for sauces at fast food places and see what effects you can do from that stage onwards.

I wear a small on my ring finger, its slightly too big. But this works quite well as I have an identical looking titanium ring the same size and because they are slightly big I can switch them in my pocket with one hand.
