On a more serious note, whoever gave Benet the answers must have been a TM MEMBER. My phpBB is a little rusty when it comes to admin rights and inboxes, but I'm expecting that the identity of the idiot is in Benet's inbox right now... It'll probably remain there if Benet has abandoned us now he has what he wants.

I agree absolutely. The people who provide the answers are far more to blame than the people who are trying to get them.
Can't blame someone for trying but you can still hate them. The ones exposing are the ones who need to be kicked off.
Especially that talentless you tube exposure guy with the dreads and no personality who puts up loads of tutorials on you tube. It gets me soo mad   :x :x

On the plus side, I doubt any information Benet does pick up will do him any good. He seems a little slow on the uptake.

For example, he PM'd me out of the blue at the weekend, pleading with me to teach him how to 'do the raven'.

Rather than ignore his message, I explained that any explanation he got over the internet would be useless, as he would still need to buy the Raven in order to make use of it. And that if he bought the Raven, it would come with all the instruction he needs.

Following more pleading PMs, I simplified the message to say that he was asking about a tool, and not a trick, and there was no point in him knowing what it is and how it works if he wasn't going to buy one.

But that took three messages to sink in - and I still don't think he understood what I was saying.

So I doubt that he'll understand anything he reads on exclusive magicians' forums. And if he tries to ask questions, he'll be noticed quicker than a fart in a car.

I'll be very surprised if he gets any genuine benefit out of this.

<disclaimer> Oh, and in case anyone's wondering, it wasn't me that answered his last questions. I think I scared him off with my politely stubborn Raven messages. </disclaimer>

Well, I totally deleted the 'advice giver' post, as I didn't feel they deserved naming and shaming—mainly because aside from that post, they've been a pretty helpful contributor—and even though I called them a 'pillock' I fear they were just being naturally and innocently helpful.

I am in a bad mood today, however, and I am admittedly taking out my rage on anyone who tips the balance of my short intolerance.

Just to throw a fun fact at you guys:

Those questions were for a different magic site (Magichat.co.uk to be exact. Not advertising!)

They have an "Access" system, where you have to answer questions in order to see how different tricks are done. Basically, for every question you get correct, your level goes up one.

The more you know!

Its basically an exposure site, which exposes REALLY bad methods.. and expects you to expose methods to learn more crud ways of doing really bad versions of tricks.. stay away!! I registered AGES ago thinkin it was a forum.. didnt stay long.. maybe 3 mins..

I would volunteer as a 'helper' type Mod from 12pm-8pm then 11pm-4am as that is when im online most.

I know Im new but im putting myself forward.. Id like to think people
here like me :D

And I have plenty of MOD experience

Nice idea - I very much like it! Actually it was just a very busy family weekend and loadsa work on Monday & Tuesday which meant I didn't get chance to log in. Of course, the backlog of posts was far too much to read through so apologies if anyone's still waiting for an answer to questions etc. I think I've ploughed through everything my Inbox by now!

All the data will be in there but an Inbox is private and only the member can open and read messages - which is as it should be. In the interests of strict accuracy, Benet didn't abandon us, he was elbowed  .

Me too and many others which, in addition to the other issues, is why he's no longer with us.

Come on mods, it looks like there's enough consensus on here to justify a serious debate on the issue of Making Registration Harder.

Abraxus's idea was particularly good IMO, giving initial access to only a couple of forums then slowly opening the doors to further wonderment. Combine that with a more stringent registration program and you've got a nice tight ship that hopefully should weed out the Benets of this cyberworld.

The artist who does not rise, descends.

It's a good idea but the Forum format is fixed and enhacements like this are not really possible. Sorry.
