Double Thought Projection

Postby Lady of Mystery » Dec 12th, '06, 12:26

For my first review I thought I'd write a review of another of Mark Wilson's little gems. To follow on from the torn napkin review.

The Effect

Double Thought Projection is a total gem in Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic. A spectator names any card that comes into their mind. The magician procedes to take a deck of cards and find that one card has a different colour back. That card is the same as the spectator named.

Then for a double wammy the magician takes a second deck, hands it to the spectator and asks them too look through it. They find a single card of a different colour back which again matches the card they named.

Cost

Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic £14.99

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

2 (one very simple sleight needed)

Review

I love this trick and use it as the last trick in one of my routines. It always gets fantastic reactions. The spectator is always left wondering what just happened. They have total free choice of card and dont even have to touch a card, just name one off the top of their head. How can that card have a different back to the rest of the deck. And the second hit just finishes it off, the spectator looks through the deck themselves and finds a single card with a different back. Like most tricks you do have to work on getting the presentation correct, but once that's right it's a killer.

Overall

A brilliant trick, well worth dusting off your copy of M W's book for.

8 out of 10

Just cos it looks a bit out dated and not with street magic kinda looks on the cover people dismiss it, I know i did untill i got it a couple of years ago i use the card part with royal road to card magic as referance for everything car related. I havent actually used the royal road cover to cover i use it as referance book.

But some of the stuff in it is great.

Mark Wilsons book is brilliant. I think some of his persentations are a bit dated but the effects themselves are brilliant and with some imagination they can look really good.

The trick is on page 95, I actually do the Clever Combination that he describes.

Then again the presntations in mordern coin magic arent cutting edge now days. I always like reading "Borrow a gentlemans pockt hankychef" Takes you back to the golden era. Tell you all what book i have got and not many people have mentioned ever well never seen mentioned. I got Lewis Gansons Routined Manipulations vol 3 Jerry Sadowitz sold it to me international magic.

Page number is while i leaf through my copy of Mark Wilson , 95

As with Tabrbell, espite this book being written years ago, the effects inside still cut it.
I alsways find myseff referring to Mark Wilson's book as it contains a bit of everything. Nice review, great to see people are still using these effects in their shows.

I know we can not discuss methods here, but to me it sound the same as a Michael Close effect (I forgot its name, but could find out). I think the effect is on "Ultimate Workers" Vol 1 or Vol 2.

My guess it the method must be somewhat similar although Michael Close does (essentially) not use any gaffed decks.

Magic is slight of mind!

Soren, this effect is a good one and doesn't use a gaffed deck either.
