book reviews I think we need

Postby Marvell » Dec 13th, '06, 21:21

I'd like to see reviews of these and associated comments too. I find the comments more interesting than the review sometimes.

The are the one's I'm interested in, but what's I'm most interested in in is comparision and companion reading, if you know what I mean. I'm trying to develop a purchasing path.

If these exist in the Reviews Section, and someone has time, it might be worth creating posts in Book Reviews which point back.

Review Sections are always tough to manage unless there is a reference point (the item) which point down to the reviews.

You'll need to Search around a bit. I've just moved Absolute Magic and 13 Steps Reviews into the Book Review area but there have been several threads on both of these titles so there will be more out there somewhere. Although not fully up to date, try the Review Index in the Review Area - http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic1999.php - you may find what you're looking for.

Just looked at the review for Magic and Showmanship which could have been better frankly so I'll write one for it later!

Hang on a minute...

Why are we doing the 'legwork' for people...?

Smarvell... why not just use the 'search' function like it would seem everyone else is doing on your behalf?

:D

If the search function is throwing up too many results, go to Google and enter this:

site:.talkmagic.co.uk

...followed by some search terms, such as the name of the book/effect/user/etc. and some other terms such as "review"

Because the search thing is a bit crazy. Have you tried it? Try searching for Art of Astonishment for instance.

It's more likely that the author will be able to locate it more easily.

Alternatively, with some wizzy SQL, the owner of the database which holds the forum post might be able to create an index. If they can't then I'm sure I can, if someone lets me at it.

Hmmm....

I just went to 'search', typed in 'Art of astonishment', selected 'all terms' and selected the 'reviews' forum.

1 page of results, and there it was, the review.

I think a few people miss the fact that you can narrow a search down to specific forums
