Do you suppose that in France they simply call it "The Drop?"

It actually used to be called "Le Tourniquet" and that is exactly how you will see it described in older books. I am sure that is where the term "French" drop came from.

I believe that some American texts now refer to it as the Freedom Drop.

Maybe they call it something like Basic Coin Vanish, and saying 'The Drop' to them in their language is actually really offensive.

I was born with Multiple Personality Disorder. Luckily, they are all me, they just dont always get along...

The Belgians call French Fries, Belgian Fries so they may well call the French Drop the Belgian Drop.

Useless Information #1: French fries are not French but frenched meaning cut lengthways before cooking.

Useless Information #2: Frenched and then fried potatoes were introduced to Britain by a Belgian.

Useless Information #3: The Frenched and fried potatoes were then returned to Belgium by an Englishman so we could all enjoy PROPER chips again!

I seem to recall (it might have been from QI) that fish & chips as a dish in its own right was introduced to England in the 17th century by Spanish Jews.
