Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

Once you get the hang of the pressure fan, it's no problem. Minimal pressure is needed to make the fan even and creates only a little bend in the cards.

No need to thank me - thank Jeff McBride.

Though, actually, I think it was Dean Dill. Never mind, thank McBride anyway: maybe it'll boost his confidence so he doesn't feel he has to hide behind those masks.

The way to fan cards well is to take the crusty old cards you're using and consine them to the "I'm going to learn to spring with these" pile and get a good quality pack out. It is soooo much easier.

Same here. Tight arses aren't we!!!!

I have a collection of hundreds of cards in a pile that are left overs from ruined decks and ripped cards that I can't bear to throw away. I know some day, sometime I will certainly need them for some important reason!!:)

Back to the pressure fan..... I prefer to do them with a deck of cards that are slightly worn. Give me a new pack and I find it awkward. I got taught by Jeffrey too. Don't think I know the reverse fan.....

The "reverse fan" is Jerry Cestkowski's one handed fan. The one handed fan that many of you know of is called the manipulation fan or smear fan in his opinion. His one handed fan forms a round thumb fan-look but done with one hand. It's very nice. I personally like his methods of naming the flourishes :).

Steve is right. There are Several ways to one handed fan a deck of cards you got "Manipulators fans" as Jerry calls them "one handed circular fans" , "One handed preasure fan" and of course "the flip back fan"

Fanning powder may be of use to get the fans perfect, Jerry dose recomend this as well as Jeff McBride.

to do the manipulators fan hold your left hand like a "c" thumb at the bottom fingers pointing the same way, now turn your hand palm up in same finger position. if viewd from the left hand side it forms an "U" shape. Now take about 20 cards and grip the cards in this "U" shape. now this is the real working of the fan your thumb pulls to the left and your fingers to the ring. you may find your getting more of a "line" or "bar" of cards when you do this. This due to the speed your are fanning the cards at do it a bit faster and you should be able to get a nice old fashioned one handed fan. Same with the right hand except the thumb goses to the right. One last thing the thumb in the left hand starts in the bottom right hand corner of the cards.

Hope this helps

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.

Hmmm. Somebody on another forum told me that plastic coated cards won't fan. I hadn't heard that one before. I got some other cards, and I can now fan half a deck and sometimes even the whole deck. Of course, it's not very PRETTY, but it's getting there.
I don't know why, but I thought all modern cards were plastic coated. That's what I get for thinking!

Bicycle and Tally-Ho and Bee cards are all really nice at fanning. Fanning powder can help, but is not necessary.

Cheap/plastic cards are BAD for fanning 8).
