This is true, if the "vendor" can be proven to be trading as a company as I believe is the case here, it's all to do with distance selling regulations.
Remember, if you buy stuff off t'internet from some person on ebay remember distance selling rules cannot and do not apply currently.
Purchases from individual private sellers always boil down to Caveat Emptor (I forget the literal translation but I think the best descriptions are "buyer beware" or "sold as seen")
You can track Royal Mail parcels online
here if you have the 13 digit recorded/special delivery reference, if you don't have the reference don't even bother emailing, as discussed previously the RM will email you back asking things like where it was sent from, who to, the 13 digit reference number, then you send them all the detail they ask for (apart from the reference number as you don't know it) and they will then email you back 2 weeks later and say pretty much as follows "sorry bud, without the 13 digit ref no we can't help ya!"
Also, on the insurance, beware I've had a couple of things damaged in the post recently (one of these was a guitar in a flight case just to get an idea of what I'm talking about here, how they'd managed to damage it I'll never know), basically RM employ a loss adjuster / damage & repair "expert" to come round and inspect the damage and more importantly the packing, from my experience they then write back to RM and say that the packing was insufficient don't pay the claim! However I must say, as always, this is just my experience/opinion.
hope this helps.
