Does anyone know why this film took so long to come out over here? (UK) I had actually heard about The Illusionist before The Prestige, but was confused as to the delay :?

Ridiculous how long it's taken... but less than a week to go now! Counting down the days.

I know The Illusionist is out on DVD (Region 1), but I've waited this long that I'm determined to see it at the cinema (and then buy the DVD!).

8)

I missed The Prestige at the cinema, so will hopefully try and catch it when it comes to DVD.
The Illusionist opens here next week and sounds good from the description. Are there many magic related effects in it or is it more geared towards the love story?

Good question Lord Freddie. I don't know too much about the effects or 'illusions' used in the film. Without giving the game away, anyone got any teasers :?:

Counting down the days now... only 4 to go (provided my gfriend doesn't insist on seeing it Sat instead of opening night!).

I saw an interview with Ed Norton on tv tonight. Jeez, that guy's so shy and unassuming. I'd forgotten how much so (all my gf could say is how cute he is  !). Was also checking out the film's site at work and thought the flipbook was cool.

There are many magic-effects on it but for the most part they are unfortunately just for the movies... and cannot be performed in actuality. Very impressive though....

The one prominent trick in the movie is where Eisenheim makes an orange tree instantaneously grow from a pot and produce real oranges. While the magic effects are fun to watch - they are quite a stretch...

Just saw the Prestige this week-end..... and I still believe The Illusionist is the better movie (maybe because I saw it first). Of course this is a matter of opinion!

I found it very ironic, however, that the Prestige, while certainly a good, entertaining movie, fell victim to the very thing it was trying to show about magic... there were too many "Prestiges"!!!!!

The Illusionist followed the basic magic principle: keeping it AS SIMPLE AS POSSIBLE. As Brad Christian (and I'm sure many others) always says... "simple hits hard". With the Prestige, in the end the audience is being bombarded with far too many astonishing revelations that each loses its power... (the power that they would have had ALONE).

But, in the end... I was thrilled to watch both of these movies!

To be honest, I saw the trailer for The Illusionist and it's really put me off seeing it. It was one of the most boring five minutes I have ever sat through with apalling shouty acting.
The British 'Magicians' film looks far better.

I watched the illusionist already in December in Denmark. It is strage that the movie first arrived in the UK recently.

One thing the REALLY PUZZLES ME is that the illusionist got quite lunke warm reviews in the UK, while in fact its an absolutely brilliant movie!!

I have now come to the conclusion that magicians partly love the movie since the main character in some sense is a magician (as we magicinas would like to see ourselves). Some laypeople might however not like the movie because for them magicians should be like the ones in fairly tales, and since the magician in the movie use trickery to some extend, these dreamers might not really catch on to the movie..

Thus the illusionist is a true magicians for magicians, but to some extend a just a trickster from some reviewers perspective (in two reviews I read the reveiver though the the film was without magic).

Well, the revievers are wrong! The illusionist is one of the best movie I have watched for years!!! Its a movie you really would like to watch twice.

Magic is slight of mind!

Saw this the other day! Was quite impressed! The fact that he had to learn to do a few tricks is also good, and he performed them quite well. Im talking about the coin trick with the poor kids, and the bit with the snooker ball (although it was a different actor).

I was born with Multiple Personality Disorder. Luckily, they are all me, they just dont always get along...

although I'm informed he did his contact bit himself, which was nice. although one little bit from it got me thinking, if it's actually possible to do it would be amazing, so i've been playing about with hook-ups and CJ balls, but getting nowhere so far

I've yet to see the Illusionist (I've heard great things though!), but I absolutely love the Prestige! I'd highly recommend at least renting it, for it's definately worth a look (even if you aren't a magician, hehe).

I've seen both. Excellent cinematography on both and very well act (even though the role was not that challenging for Norton). Paul Giamati was excellent as supporting actor on Illusionist and so was David Bowie as Nichola Tesla on The Prestige.
If I have to favour one of the two I think that The Prestige was a bit better for my personal taste.
I would recommend both.
