Blow it all on one effect - something that you've not been able to afford until now but which will be exclusive because of the high price so not many people will have it.

i reckon ID, if you go through your books and dvds, you'll aready have enough material to start performing...

we all fall in the spend more cos it sounds so great trap...its a "yeah, but what if this is THE effect..." kinda thought process isnt it...

i found that if you write down say 6-8 effects you are completely comfortable with - and work with them to suit your character, and how they flow from one to the other...then that'll be more than enough to perform with...good luck with it though...

dont forget that old story too - a young kid goes up to an older famous magician and says "hey, i know how over 60 tricks are done..how many do you know?" - he looks at him and smiles and says "oooh about 6..."

learn and work on a few, make them personal and emotive to you, and share that experience with your audience...involvement is everything...

Thank you.. I was doing some thinking..

I have so much material that I havent even touched on.. I've even got more than enough material for the next 8 years just on mentalism I reckon!! Which is where I want to go eventually, but not now.

I have 70% of owned material never worked on.

Im going to stick to my recent venture into tt work, sponges and rope and add some good solid lengthy routines there.

My coin work is something I spend a lot of time on now too and I still have things like Dai vernons inner secrets, and I found Dai Vernons book on magic which I forgot I had, erdnase at the card table etc.. there is LOADS that I have so i dont need books that really teach something.

I might just buy up 1 or 2 things I couldnt afford otherwise that many people wont own, just because I have to spend the money online.. cant have vouchers or cash. any extra ill put towards a present for the perfect wedding anniversary I have planned for the wife and I :D .. think weekend in a castle and a balloon flight !!

Oh yeh

This morning I received my kevlar reel pen!! :D NICE... It looks like I might be able to use IT now without posing many problems by the looks of things.

The kevlar thread seems really strong too.. I just need to figure out now how to make hook ups etc.. it says that I should only use wax from the sorecy shop where it was made? would Michael ammars wax work just as well as that is the only one I have??

If you've still got lots of material to work through, buy non-material books like Absolute Magic or Strong Magic. Other than that, save it and then you'll have it when you need it to fill in the gaps.

Why not buy something you already have and then get a refund?

see. I like the library idea.. but i get to wrapped up in trying to take in everything at once.. the less i have in books, the more I will absorbe.. Ill end up getting all the books I need over the years anyway..

to get £200 worth of books at once is only going to impeed me as it first did.

But I know where you're and agree to the higher extent.

Ill take a look at the things you mentioned, thanks

ID, since you are into TT's, do you own Darwin's Encyclopedia of TT magic? I can definately recommend it! also, save some coin for the New Bike 1800's.
