CUPS???? HELP!!!!

Postby JD » May 3rd, '07, 19:40

Hey guys.

I've only been on this site a day but I must say I really like it, its very useful and theres ome good banter!

One thing I keep reading is CUPS?!? What does it mean? I can get the gist of it (and I think I am a suffer if it is what I think) but what does it actually stand for? Hope someone can help?

I am a beginner to magic and am not learning to make a living just to entertain friends and show of a bit really! I have bought quite a few DVDs and effects such as Trickery Double, Passing Thru and many more but what I am really after is some killer effects that are easy to learn and really wow people and some decent coin magic! Sleight of hand puts me off cos I'm sh*te at it but there must be something in there!

By biggest problem is I get suckered in so easily and they all sound so good, but when I get them I'm often disappointed or they're over-complex! Is that CUPS???

Anyways, hope somebody can help me as my Overdraft keeps taking a beating!

Cheers for reading! :D

Hi Jdizzle - welcome to TM!

When you get a mo, perhaps you'd be good enough to pop across to the 'Introductions' thread, so you can tell us all a little about yourself :D

As to CUPS, there's a huge glut of related-posts on the subject, which can easily be found, by using the 'Search' function (as a rule-of-thumb, it's always a good idea to do a search or two, before posting a question, as, 80% of the time, you'll find that your answer's already been posted by another member!)

As an example of one of these threads, please feel free to click here

There's no need to post everything three times.

What would you guys say is the moment at one somene reaches CUPS? I'd say it's probably when you buy ten to fifteen magic items a week.

How about - Monker59 shows some disrespect to magic in general?

The Cups and Balls is a classic and as a fellow enthusiast, I know that the Mog for one will agree  and I for one would move my tray closer to Effex777

People have made careers out of performing little else than Cups and Balls and it's a FACT that the one thing that makes other magicians sit up and take notice of another magician, is seeing their Cups and Balls routine.

I've been privelidged to see a couple of recent performances by Peter Wardell and Michael Vincent and their routines were simply breathtaking.

Just because someone else has a different look on magic from your own is perfectly reasonable and should be respected.

I agree. I absolutely love the cups and balls... They incorporate so many elements of magic--transpositions, vanishes, penetrations, appearances, disappearances--all coupled with countless opportunities for humor, innuendo, and spectator interactions. What could be better?

Oh, I know. You can find it on Ellusionist

I do hope that this statement is an attempt at humour

I just said that because Effex777 made a big turn from the thread. The CUPS has very little to do with the Cups and Balls effect. I just thought what he said was very random since it really wasn't in the right context.

I've re-read and you're right! It was way off topic and most likely a mis-understanding of what CUPS is :?
