It took me a few weeks on and off practising to get it so that I could do a perfect one about 50% of the time. Then when the person from the Royal Institute came around a few days of intense practise got it to the stage where I could reliably do 8 on the trot. A couple of weeks after that and I found I could pick up pretty much any deck and do the 8.
