I hate when I do that. You think to yourself "Ah, it's just a receipt, what good is it for?". You can turn yourself into a real fool by doing that.

When you post something in the UK (normal first class delivery) you are automatically insured for about £30-40.

Then where's the problem? If the item was lost, then you go and get your insured value and send the cheque to the guy who lost the money...

Oh, just read rvoice's post...

Well, next time, don't throw your receipts away. And, I hate to tell you this, but since you did have a receipt and could have gotten the money refunded, then it is on you to refund the money out of pocket...Basically, bend over and take it like a man.

That's the ethical way of doing business.

Mike.

Not sure if things have changed but at one time items lost or gone astray in ordinary mail can still be claimed for even without a receipt. there's a form available at Post Offices where you fill in names, addresses, dscriptions of the package and contents, date and place of posting etc and let the PO investigate. Chances are not all that good that lost items will be found but sometimes the claims process seems to do the trick.
