The Best Comedian I Know

Postby Michael Kras » Jul 23rd, '07, 02:09

I love stand-up comedy, and John Pinette is THE funniest comedian I have ever seen. He doesn't swear or make obscene joke, but he is HILARIOUS!

John Pinette is hugely overweight and makes jokes about dieting, nurtition, buffets, and his size without being offending. HE IS A RIOT!

Check him out:

Great! Yes, his special was hilarious! I rented the DVD with my dad, and we were laughing so hard that we had to pause the DVD for 10 minutes to catch our breath.

There's some great ones out there these days (Last Comic Standing is one of my favorite shows).

Just recently I've become a bit chummy with Alanzo Bodden (http://www.myspace.com/alonzobodden) who is certainly a funny dude!

Benny Hill is rhe funniest man ever. The phrase 'American comedy' is an oxymoron to me.

I'm also from the British school of comedy. The only American comedian who floats my boat on an intellectual level is George Carlin.

I guess it's just cultural differences—but American comedy seems to be about 20 years behind British stand-up. We had fat blokes self-pitying themselves about their weight years ago.

Amongst some of the funniest contemporary British comedians are Peter Cook, Dudley Moore, The Two Ronnies, Morecombe & Wise.

Notice I said 'contemporary'? That's because most modern comedians are simply re-cycling their materials with swearing and current affairs. I was fortunate enough to be a teen growing up through the 'UK alternative-comedy' period of the 1980s. Shock tactics used by Ben Elton et al were actually no more blue, political or deflamatory than the works of Jim Davidson, Billy Connoly or Dave Allen years before.

Comedy is pretty much something which can only be personal. You can't force someone to find something funny. It's like any emotion—it's individual.

Thank goodness!

Ahhh Peter Cook. The greatest comedian that this country has ever produced. These days the word genius gets chucked about far too much but that man deserves the title.
Bill Hicks or Steven Wright have to be my favourite US comics.

Peter Cook, Billy Connolly, Lenny Bruce, Bill Hicks, Richard Pryor...

story telling, vitriolic, loving preachers...or just great emotive or questioning story-tellers...

And there, sir, you've hit a nail on the head.

Would he be so funny if he were on the radio, or in text?

Lee is typical of modern 'visual' comedy which harks back to Harold Lloyd, Chaplin, Laurel & Hardy etc. and way before. He is hilarious to look at and watch.

Richard Prior!!

How could I forget him?!

If you're a fan of his stand up then I heartily recommend his autobiography. Now there is an example of a man that live an eventful life. An extremely funny book written by the man who defined todays stand up.

Ah, but may I please bring to your attention the following TV programmes: I Love Lucy, the Addams Family, the Munsters, Mash, Friends (it pains me to say but some of them were really very funny), Taxi, Cheers, etc. In the sit-com stakes the US in consistantly better than the UK. There are a few exceptions of course (Fawlty Towers, Blackadder, the Office) but in the main it has been the US that has led the way.

My two favourite films are Carry On Screaming and Abbott & Costello Meet the Monster. So you see how I have a foot planted firmly in both camps.

You'll be glad to know that many of us feel the same way about British humor, except we leave the "oxy" out of it...

Absolutely Siege his actions and appearance are just as if not more funny than his actual jokes, so no he wouldn't be as funny if you couldn't see him. So he's slightly dorky looks and actions have made him an absolute fortune.
