I have no experience of the Jardin Ellis and only one model of the Himber, so I'm probably not qualified to answer but I'm going to anyway!

The himber ring I've played with was pretty good, the mechansm was pretty much indetectable but it had disadvantages in that it would only fit on my little finger, which looked a bit camp on me, and it wasn't the easiest to operate subtly, however, a good one would be great I imagine.

My experience of the Himber ring is about the same as Tom and Nick - although it's small, it fits on the pinky OK and does look a bit camp. The fact that this doesn't worry me worries me a lot! It works fine and, having seen the TV show last year where one was planted in the audience so the Magish could link rings from 3 'total strangers' I can see its a bit like the TT - we know what's going on but others don't. You need to be very comfortable and have good misdirection and patter on tap.

I have no experience of the Jardine Ellis but if you'd like to see a routine from Scott Guinn using this plus other items, check out http://www.online-visions.com/effects/0210jellis.html

they also do a chop ring but thats a diferent thread, its often hard to get this type of ring to look anything but what it is, some of the older versions i have had came with an ungimmicked ring which you switched out.
thease days both quality and service are sadly lacking and that is why I'm mentioning loonybin as a site as they are great on service even if they cant always get quality items.

Strange question. The Himber ring is so different to the ellis ring.
i have a himber but have only once performed something with it, Its not that i didnt like it, quite the oposite, i loved performing it, but because i havent had the chance to play in a large venue for a while. And it should be remembered that this is not a close up effect . It was created by Perci Diaconis, ( yup, not Richard Himber ) to perform in caberet and night clubs, where you are a reasonable distance from the audience.
Also, it is in many ways like the t.t, in that the audience never see it. You only show the audience member who loaned the rings their rings.
Now the ellis ring on the otyher hand can be done at a reasonably close range, in effects like ring on rope, wand, etc.
I own an Ellis chinese coin , which gets lots of use with a piece of red ribbon tied between the thumbs of a couple. the routine " chinese wedding" realy goes down well with punters, and the plot revolves around the reason why the coin has a hole in it, and how the dowery is given to the bride on her wedding night.
Very visual, and perfect for valentines, weddings etc.
sounds like an advert doesnt it? but it's not.

so to sumerise then a himber ring is for stage and not close up, a ellis ring stands closer inspection and is better for linking rings and ring off / on rope.
and the chop ring well thats a completely diferent thread entirely   .
