Possible answers to "how do you do that?"

Postby loque » Sep 16th, '07, 12:25

(Well this is my first post, so if it is in the wrong section or inappropriate in some way, mods please accept my apologies and zap it! p.s. I also seriously did search for any sign that this question had already been asked on this forum...)

The Effect: you show a person a magic trick of your choice, causing them to spontaneously ask you "how did you do that?" , setting you up to give them an answer that will (hopefully) not result in them throwing your very expensive gimmick in front of a passing bus. This effect is a complete self-worker that you should be able to do with any trick. Bus not included.

Anyway, the bus incident really did happen to me once, and highlighted to me the importance of proper audience control (don't leave it in their hands longer than you have to), and the need to come up with a few more answers to The Question that people may accept with humour instead of irritation.

Two answers I have used to death:
Them: "how do you do that?"
You: "I do it very well!"

Them: "how do you do that?"
You: "can you keep a secret?"
Them: "yes..."
You: "Well so can I."
*then you do the thing with the bus*

another one that comes up a lot is:

Q: "can I shuffle that deck?"
A: "ooh, sorry I've played 52-card pickup one too many times to fall for that! How about I shuffle the deck for you?"

If people have any more creative answers to these questions that they are willing to part with, they would be really appreciated!

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

thanks for the link moonbeam - I think I need to spend some time figuring out the search engine on the site ...

Don't worry the search function here was created as a special game. The idea is that you get 20 pages of results that could contain perhaps three relevant hits. The fun comes from then searching through these yourself to find the right one. If this doesn't fit your notion of enjoyment try searching through Google instead. Include the word talkmagic in your search and you'll invariably find what you seek more or less instantly.

And I thought I was the only one that had limited success with searching? Never thought of using google to search TM thought....will try it in future searches

Spot on. In my experience, Googling yields far more relevant results than the TM search. I've said it before and I'll say it again - the TM search function is very hit and miss and depends on the keyword(s) you use. More often than not, you're better off with Google.

I couldn't agree more! I've tried searching for things I know are back there somewhere but it takes a long time and verious attempts to get anywhere near at times. Using Google has a much higher hit rate.
