What's your favourite place to perform magic?

Postby themagicwand » Oct 22nd, '07, 22:54

Magic and mentalism is such a wide ranging area that often one person's idea of what magic and mentalism is will be in complete contradiction to another person's idea.

With so many differing styles of presentation, I was wondering where people prefered to perform magic? Personally I'm lucky enough to work a lot of the time in grand stately homes that have been hired out for weddings or are used by "ghost hunting" companies for corporate events. These locations suit my performance style perfectly and I enjoy nothing better than giving tarot and palm readings of an evening in a sumptious lounge with a roaring log fire. However I'm sure this would be a totally alien environment for someone who enjoys "street magic" or XCM. So, where do you enjoy getting your magical kicks???

Hello, Magicwand.

I am usually booked to perform at company events such as Holiday parties for adults. I have performed for several compainies and will performing for a Holiday party this December at another corporation. In January, I am booked to perform at the local Cultural Arts Center for a black tie event. That being said, I enjoy performing for adults the most in an on stage setting. Magic and/or Mentalism are worlds apart to me. I started in magic, but Mentalism is more tailored to my style and clientelle.
But, every now and then, I enjoy just performing for the fun of it at the local pub. There is a certain satisfaction in amazing someone else's girlfriend. :P

Magicdiscoman, have you ever done the summer or christmas balls at the WO/SR mess at HMS Collingwood?

They have close up magicians working every year and it's your neck of the woods so just wondered!

Due to the nature of my act, most of my performances are on stage which I do enjoy, but I also like intimate gatherings for effects that take more time to put across (such as Heirloom) and private parties. Oddly enough, I have enjoyed the kids shows I have done.

House parties, with at least 6 guests (aside from myself).

Down the pub, a few chums around.

On holiday abroad, with a nice gathering.

In the bedroom is where all the magic happens.....

Ok the missis may disagree with that

Down the pub or just at events where I get to mingle/walkaround really.Sometimes not having a table to perform can be restricting in the material you can perform but I much prefer the dynamic of being able to wander amongst a group of spectators and the fact they are standing up makes me think they are more involved somehow.

 being a children's magician, i prefer hired halls or working men's clubs to people's front rooms, because there is more room to perform, but I also like to perform in the living room for family and friends. That said, I'm performing at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange in a couple of weeks as part of a talent contest through work

put in a tender every year to the combined services department but so far have only done a few outdoor events organised by service men, if you have any contact details please let me know.

Well, if it's anything like our house, the only magical thing that happens in the bedroom is socks disappearing.

Now, the kitchen and living room is a different story altogether...

What a truly wonderfully fun question, Paul. Thanks for asking it, it helps each of us get a glimpse into who we all are. How fun.

Oh Seige, you talking about socks totally got me giggling.

As for me, performing outdoors in the wilds of nature is my place. In the woods, by the sea (I am a surfer girl), rivers, lakes, swamps, mountains, anyplace natural and outdoors. The wilder it is the better I love it and the more magical it is for me.

Love,

Amanda Angeli

Breakaway wand?

Aaaaaanyhoo...

Usually in a pub or at someone's house for me. I like people nice and relaxed, so I can spoil it.
