Torn and restored napkins.....classic, old-school, yet fun....learn an impromptu cup and ball routine that allows you to work with napkin balls and borrowed coffee cups and things....can look very good and with the impromptu setting you mentioned above it would look like you just through it together.
I like Dai Vernon's twisting the aces....it is completly impromptu but when handled correctly can be shocking. I think Tenko said Card Warp....couldn't agree more with that one. Do you carry a Cel phone? I have a fun effect where a selected card appears as a screen saver....silly but with the right "acting" it hits pretty good....especially on the street.
Get a card wallet.....it is useful for a reveal of almost any small object that you have vanished. Well worth the money and if you get one that you like you can actually use it as your regular wallet.
Take the advice from Bronz....learn Crazy mans handcuffs...would be good in a school setting as elastic bands can be found in any teachers desk and done impromptu.....maybe considering school as a venue, I have heard nothing but great things about Sankey's "paperclipped" and it would once again allow you to work your school setting in what appears to be an impromptu situation.
