Best card training book/dvd

Postby Scott. » Dec 6th, '07, 07:59

Hi, i did do a bit of searching but couldn't really find anything. I am starting to get really interested in cards and card manipulation and I was wondering what you think is the best dvd or book for teaching the basic/intermediate moves and maybe some advanced to work towards. I have already bought 'expert at the card table' and that is in the mail so dont suggest that.

Also, I dont really like gimmicks and things like that. I just want to learn actual moves that require skill.

Thanks in advance, Scott.

Scott.

OK 1st of all
The RRTCM it's the bible of card magic.
Then probabley the complete Walton (comes in 2 volumes I think)
Card college and probably the ETCM.

All of these will do you in good stead and prevent you from making bad habits with cards that will be harder to break later. Oh yeah, buy a couple of packs of bicycle cards.

Hope that helps.

Reading: Walton Vol 1, ECT and MCM DVD
Practising: ECT, "Its a set-up", "the smiley Mule"
Performing: I.D. , Pass At Red, Profs Nightmare, Extraction of Silver
My name is 'Chris Peacock'
Im not dead, just workin hard!

First book has to be Royal Road, it is the building blocks for all card magic in my opinion.

For a DVD, Oz Pearlmans Born To Perform (how I miss Katrielalex when this question gets asked!)

Agreed. Royal Road and Card College are the 2 I used, and still refer to now

The boys have got it right I think, Royal Road is a great place to start. You might find Expert at the Card Table and little hard going to start with.

I would start with cards on the table by Jerry Sadowitz and then move on to it isnt easy being a cardman....

Ok maybe read them other books first.

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.

I second third and fourth pedromazevedos, the ETMCM series is really really really good. It should be mandatory to watch the first three at least once you've got into Royal Road. Where else can you get the original and best versions of Twisting the Aces, Triumph, Red Hot Mama, etc etc etc from one dvd?

Love everything mentioned, but to narrow it down...my personal view is that we have a particular favoritism toward the best that was around when it was new to us; in my case, that means Royal Road, ECT, EatCT, etc., as previously mentioned.

As I sit here in late 2007, though, I honestly feel that if you're just starting out, and you can't get EVERYTHING, at least right away, the best you can do is Card College. This makes sense; Roberto Giobbi had the opportunity to "stand on the shoulders of giants," as they say, and he rose to the occasion. Granted, Royal Road isn't particularly expensive, and nobody should really be without it, but if I were planning an up & coming card man's library, Volume by Volume, it would be CC 1, CC 2, CC 3, CC 4, CC 5...and then I'd get back to thinking about it when we had to figure out what his 6th book would be.
