Dust covers! I hate them! They get in the way when you're trying to read your latest book pur-chase and then they get creased and folded so if you put them back on it makes the book look rubbish! AND even getting the blasted things on is a nightmare! Its just a logistical paradox; the book actually has to be closed before the dust cover will fit onto it. WHY!!!?

Ahem, i'll be going now...

because if it fitted tightly on the book when it was open then the book wouldnt shut

Don't judge a book by it's 'loose' cover :) lol

Really, I can't comment, as I usually remove dustjackets and file them away. I prefer the hardback look anyway.

I'm not Compulsive or Obsessive!

Kitchen-sink psychology, I'm afraid... i.e. keep everything.

Does it have anything to do with the fact that I never throw anything away? Probably.

More distressing is the fact that I still insist on keeping ice cream tubs—just in case they ever come in handy!!!

Ahhh, but the sweet joy when you need one for something, and it's there :)

Don't know why—just always been the same. And my hearty collection of dustjackets is living up to it's name—they're gathering dust. Actually, in fact I think I probably have 'moved on' some of the books but still have the DJ's LOL

Fortunately, in the modern day and age, books are still the 'best' medium... and that's conclusive.

Is your eBook collection ever going to have the dustjacket problem? I don't think so. :)

Same applies to the 'paperless office' theory. I can't ever see it happening. In fact, in my office, computers generate MORE paperwork than ever before. But I digress.

Hardbacked books should be read WITHOUT the dust jacket. That way, all your problems are over :)

Have to agree with you there. I have hundreds of ebooks and I keep on wishing I had a printer so I could print them out
Never really had a problem with a dust jacket, but most of my books are paperbacks anyway..

That's the conclusion I've come to now and I've started to file them away.

So each time I get a "jacketed" book out I simply take the cover off and hide it in the secret place that nobody knows about. Except you lot now, 'cause I just told u. :? bottom* buckets.

*HAHA! That's pretty funny! If you wish to know why I'm laughing, let me explain and see if you can work it out. Originally I tried to use a shorter word instead of "bottom". It means the same and yet when I previewed the post it said something completely different! If any body knows anything about this, please tell me why. It's very funny.

I'm struggling to find an answer for why you found it funny, but I have to agree that dust covers are annoying. Whenever I get a hard back, I rip the cover off in a furious rage, then spend an hour trying to put it back together so that I can see the illustration on it.

theres a word censor used by the board where as certain words are filtered and changed if you type them... eg b*u*m without the stars will give bababoom, it was just a joke a while back

There are quite a few out there;

b um = bum
b bb = bum
m dk = Mandrake
b f = Bananafish
b fd = BeerForDolphins
y t = yt
m dm = MagicDiscoMan
m om = mom
b w = bw
j m = jugglemonkey
t km = TalkMagic
h t = ht

The idea was to make it a little easier to address people with slightly longer usernames.

Don't forget Mog = Mog.

Most important, that one. Just try it if you don't believe me.
