The mechanics of the rising deck are such that it CAN indeed be prone to failure.
There aren't really any solutions, except for careful handling. The deck is very delicate and needs to always be kept totally flat, no bends or buckles.
The most reliable material I found for the 'gripper' dot would seem to be Uhu's 'white tak' - like blue tak, but white...
Aside from that, consider other 'rising deck' methods.... and consider not having the deck rise in a speccys hand.
Gimmicks such as these can be frightfully unreliable... and for that reason, if you are performing for money, I would advise that unless you can guarantee the functionality, you should steer clear.
The 'other', less mechanical effects, can be equally as impressive.
