From Holland to Blackpool

Postby syoung » Dec 28th, '07, 14:13

Hi Y'all
I'll be heading to Blackpool from Holland again (last year was my first time)
Last year I came with a friend, this year I'm on my lonesome.
Last year i could get a flight from Amsterdam to blackpool for 2 euros plus tax (cost me about 70 euros all in, fantastic) This year no direct flights, I've got to fly into Liverpool, get my sister to drive me to her place in Burnley , then train to Blackpool. And then the same going back, but I know it's going to be worth it.
I'll be staying in The White House again on Adelaide street, 3 minutes walk from the winter gardens. Anyone else there (not much of a place but soooo close, I can fall out of bed and be in the place before I wake up properly)
Any one else going from Holland?
I keep hearing about this Ruskin place
What's the deal there? can anyone just roll up after the wintergardens closes and walk in?
Do you have to be staying there to get in?
I'd be greatful for any info.

Anyone can get into the Ruskin, it's the official Convention Hotel for the performers and organisers to stay at but the bar areas are open to anyone. Having said that, it gets very crowded and this year the downstairs area was designated as the Magcians' Area so we all went down there to get very drunk. The bar closes at about 4am or so - penty of time to have fun!

Woo HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

booked the last of the travel plans today!
Staying at the Caledonia House; who, in case you're wondering, have a couple of rooms still available and are quite reasonable (though not as "reasonable" as the £10 a night rooms we got last year)

Now, as for the friday night, anyone fancy clubbing? Me and Majortom ended up in a club near winter gardens last year pretty much because we had no idea what post-convention activities were like at the time. Thinking of hitting it again, pull some tricks, then probably head off to the ruskin after that. (be warned, it was a bit of a hip hop joint)

Depends how close you want to be.
I rang up about 10 places today and got the line "ah, for the magic convention?" from 9 of them

Assume very cold - the winds from the sea tend to scour through Blackpool so bring warm clothes for the odd few moments spent outside the Winter gardens, to and from the bars and clubs etc

I think its safe to say, pack for below freezing - mind you, a few drinks at the Ruskin, and you wont feel it any more.

Ive just booked in to the Albany on Adelaide St (apologies for the spelling) - is anyone else going to be in the Albany? Just wondering.

Did anything ever happen with the stickers on the badges? I think just a green dot or something equally recognisable, so we can see who else is from TM.

Now that I know people from the forum (i only started posting on the site from march 07) I hope to be spending alot more time in the Ruskin. I walked in last time, and was intimidated by 2 members of Die Zauderer :? - hopefully will do better this time round. Looking forward to seeing everyone now!

All the best,

Did you tell them 2 world wars and one world cup. Also I would have given them a churchill sign.

Has anyone else received the promo material about the Showzam event? It's billed as Blackpool's Circus and Magic Festival, 8th to 24th Feb so encompasses the Blackpool Magic weekend. The website is www.showzam.co.uk and it's organised by Derek Lever, same guy who does the Blackpool Magic weekend.
