Friday was my green and slimey day.

My MD called me in to his office at 10.30 and made me redundant (he actaully advised me that my position was in danger of being made redundant - different words same meaning)

I have been in the job for 10 years and am 57. Today I have spent the morning updating my CV and browsing through hundreds of jobs on the internet. What is terrifying is that I don't even understand a lot of the jargon in the job titles. When you spend a long time in one place you tend to lose sight of the outside world.

So, all in all I am feeling pretty sorry for myself!

Sorry to hear the bad news, I sincerely hope you find something suitable even if it isn't a long terms prospect, 7 years or so would be enough?

You are dead right 7 years would do me nicely. I had hoped that this job would see me through to 65 but thats a faiirly forlorn hope these days. Whe I joined the car factory in Oxford as a apprentice in 1966 there were guys there who had worked there all their working life. Jobs for life just don't exist any more.

Keep positive Johnny, you know what they say, one door closes and another one opens. I'm sure it'll work out well for you in the end

Today I am mostly feeling financially inadequate...that is to say I'm stupid with money!

It all started with the car breaking down on the way to the hospital (good news this was the first time we'd see the new baby that Mrs lmw is currently growing)

No problem, thinks I on investigation...just a wee fan belt issue solved in a day couple of hundred quid...

Had the garage on the phone just...they've found a car full of stuff that "needs" doing to make the car safe....

Total bill £829.57 incl. VAT...where the fu...ahem...I mean...where I'm going to find that money with my financial background Lord only knows (the big One up there... not Lord Freddie - nice chap that he is - is not the Lord I'm referring to)

Ah...the joys of motoring!

Somehow I reckon it'd be cheaper to get a new car...a banger lets say and run it into the ground!

If only cars had an engine in like they used to...I might be able to tinker with it and get it working...I opened the bonnet and the engine was all to c**k...big yellow lumps highlighting the user serviceable parts (windscreen wash...oil if you're brave)...

Ah don't mention cars, mine just cost me £700. Had to have welding done on it, replace a joint thingy, new exhaust and a few other things that I can't remember.

Just ask them to do the job that you want them to do, and be done with it

It's funny otherwise, how this "ultra-dangerous" car has never failed you before

tell them you shall take the risk ;)

Love

Only a little growl from Flashy, my email server updated themselves last night to improve efficiency and speed up, essential maintenance they said... Of course today my account doesn't work at all, it's pretending that I've never recieved or sent any mails... grrrr!!!!

But this is a very minor downer, for Johnny Wiz and anyone else with problems I hope they work out for the better, remember "no matter how thick the cloud may seem, behind it the sun is still shining"

True that, I chipped him down from a few ultra-dangerous things like a cracked rear lamp (which works)...and potentially dangerous exhaust which is starting to go, but has not really gone yet (i.e. still works)...to be fair everything else listed would have needed work some time in the next 3-6 months due to the MOT being due...may as well be done with in one fell swoop...not liking the bill but soon it'll be a distant memory on a very bent piece of plastic...I know I'll then be able to find something to be pink and fluffy about!...i think.... :?

and whilst he's doing the work orginally required there are a few parts that need changing which are behind the water pump and that's gleened from my piffly bit of knowledge on the subject...trust me in the long run...i believe I've saved some money...it's the only hope I have left!!!!

Nothing serious for me, just the usual... mail rage. I'm awaiting about 5 parcels, none of which Royal Mail seem to have been capable of delivering on time. One of them is a replacement for something they have lost.

The grumpiness is compounded by the fact that one of them will almost certainly incur a customs charge I had forgotten about, to the tune of about £50 :(

Mate... I feel your pain... and trust me, the pain of the retailers is the same.

I have a few parcels out there lost in space, with several quizzical unhappy customers. The Royal Mail 'where's my stuff' whinge seems to be a common one these days...

Mrs Seige is still waiting for an iPod 'skin' she ordered in December. The tracking info is still live!!!

Eeeks.

Royal Snail, more like. I ordered a book from Amazon back in June 2007 and then promptly forgot about it (!) Royal Mail delivered it last week! I would have been none the wiser, otherwise. Must be some sort of record, I'm sure.

ahhh the inland revenue...err...Her Majesti...HMRC...If only it was a good and sensible idea to trade with "dishonest" retailers who were willing to mark it as a gift!

I would like to meet the delivery drivers who come to my house I'm sure they have the card to say I wasn't in written up in the van and sneak up the neighbours path and carefully slide it through the letterbox then leg it...because if I'm not sat in the "porch" extension thingy I always get one of those "you weren't in " cards even if I'm sat just the other side of the door in the living room...I guess you have to see the room to get the full meaning!

P.S. It's not called snail mail for no reason you know!
