people who have been on Talk Magic for a while will know we have had our differences. They should then know that there is no way I would grovel to you.

This means, I can say, hand on heart, thankyou for that post.

I disagree. It is a perfect opener, if it suits the style of the rest of the show. For those that have lots of calling out, like the "look don't see" or "magician in trouble", this is a brilliant way to open.

There is so much "business" that can be used in there.

One reason I think this is something special, is the flexabilty of it. The fact that each individual has to judge just how far to go with each part, with the added bonus of being able to either cut it short, or extend it, depending on the reaction of that performance. I can't see it ever being exactly the same twice. For someone who likes working a crowd, this should be just as much fun to perform, as it is for the audience. Leaving it "open ended" means that each person has to decide how to carry this through to the next routine, so there is a basic idea, but it isn't something that will become cloned.

about 4 hours ago, my son and I were talking about magic. He commented that someone could take a tissue out of their pocket and be more entertaining than someone with expensive props.
This is exactly what you have just proved and I will get him reading your post. A letter and envelope, how cheap is that, yet so effective.

There are often posts in forums about ideal openers and this fits the bill, at least, if your style suits. I think mine does and will have to sit down and think if I can fit it into the start that I had already planned for a show.
I think I can, just have to look at the overall timings for the show.

Isn't most magic a rehash of old ideas?

This at least is a different take on the wand under arm, with a much stronger feel to it. This IS something which can open a show, whereas the wand under arm feels weak as an opener.

You may feel that it is a bit of an old effect, or so your sarcasm seems to suggest, and children may well have seen the "where did I put my wand" routine before. Mark did also say it was written about 35 years ago, but that doesn't take away the fact that it is relevant today.

You know why I like this one though? Because they wont realise it is more or less the same effect!

Let me see, change bags can be used to change or vanish something. Used slightly differently, children that have seen one routine before, may not realise they have seen the same effect.

Maybe we should all use the whenever someone mentions cards. Lets face it, the idea of most of them is to find their chosen card. So why doesn't everyone just make 3 piles of 7 cards......?
Why do they want to find more interesting or better ways of entertaining, but still coming up with the same effect of finding their card?

my change bag routine in the routines section incoporates the very same ideas as mark has outlined.

sometimes its dificult to know which side of the coin marks posts are intented to be taken thats part of his charm.
