H.P.C. Coins Thru Table

Postby Farlsborough » Apr 6th, '08, 04:04

I know, I know - what's with all the videos... all of my housemates have naffed off home for the weekend and I'm at a loose end. And also, I can't sleep.

So I've done this instead - as mentioned in the blurb, this is not a performance piece of mine, more a curious pet that I've playing with. I'm quite fond of the effect although I'm not sure how it'd work in the real world, but maybe it'll inspire someone to do look at things differently, or even use H.P.C. for something of their own. Something better.

That's neat. I was trying to come up with a good stand up PCH routine, but currently, I still need to sit.

I think a flaw with your handling (and yes, I read the description; I'm just pointing this out for my self, really) is that the discrepancy (that's in all sleight of hand) is at a somewhat 'obvious' moment. I don't think it can handle four repetitions for laypeople. That said, while sitting, combined with other CTT methods, I think your handling will add to the deception.

Thanks for sharing.

PS if you want to try it on laypeople, have a few other methods available that allow you to show the coins as they're brought up from under the table. I think it's David Roth who has about 4 different ways to do the effect in one smooth routine.

Thanks for the comment.

I learnt this from a video of this old Irish guy, who did it masterfully - his was totally convincing, but I don't think he did many other tricks - this was his masterpiece and he had practiced it for years! I'm not sure I've got the time or energy to get it that good!

I'll look into the David Roth routine though, thanks for the tip.

Are you performing on an ironing board? :? :?:

Anyway, nice work. I like this move, but mine looks like what it is. With the exception of your third one this was very smooth and looked like a great way to put coins through tables!
There's an effect in a Dai Vernon book which you may like, but then again, maybe not - as it uses 2 rows of coins (but isn't the one in Bobo  )

Yes  It's the best way to set up a relatively high table in my room. I wondered when someone would catch me out on that.

Cheers for the comment - I'm particularly pleased with the last coin through, I think the final reveal of 4 coins looks really good.

If I don't say so myself :P

By the way, if you want to learn the original that Han Ping Chien himself used to fool people, pick up a copy of David P Abbott's Book of Mysteries. The original had no repetition. The magician drops a whole fistful of coins (I think it's something like 6) through the table once. Abbott teaches the technique as well as the psychology of every step of the deception.

You're in luck Farlsborough... L & L Publishing just released "Coins Through The Table" in their World's Greatest Magic series of DVD's. There is even a HPC handling by John Mendoza...according to the advertisement I received. I'm thinking about buying this one, myself.

Farlsborough...I also just got through watching your video. Watch your CP, your thumb tends to flare out just a bit...but, otherwise I like it. You may also want to consider the "Gallo Pitch" and see if that works better for you than the HPC. Keep up the good work!

Have you considered varying the method, rather than just HPC every time? I think that using it four times in a row is maybe just a bit much.

Then again, I thought the whole thing was pretty good (damn your eyes!).

Mike.
