hi:
this is enchanting here we are all worried about secrets, ethics etc. Derren Brown does a damn fine job with a trick and we are falling over ourselves to explain how he does it.
Of course if we didn't perhaps there would be nothing to talk about.
The utibe item also shows how magicians jargon is so easily picked up by laymen.

If anyone could help me out with these I would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The fingers behind the back thing is included in a book called "The Gift" by Paul Brook.

Out of curiosity, where would I go about purchasing Paul Brook's book? i have looked on amazon and ebay, and im not quite sure where else to try. I dont like ordering off random websites (though i haven't been able to find it on any). Any advice? thanks.

Also, on the subject of Derren Brown, most of the things that he does baffles me. I absolutely love his work though and find it fascinating watching him and seeing the things that he does and the way that he presents his tricks, its unreal!

Anyway, back to the Jonathan Ross & Jane Trick.

I watched the footage again last night, and as many people have already pointed out on here.....the cards are NOT d****e f***d - it's a regular deck!

....with ONE extra card in there. You'll need a DVD remote control that has a FREZEE FRAME BY FRAME button to spot this.

So, when you hear Derren Brown say "Take the deck under the table"
Thats your cue to hit PAUSE as quickly as you can! As soon as he finishes the word "TABLE"

Then you must press your FREEZE FRAME button, and move the DVD along frame by frame until the shot cuts to Jonathan Ross gathering up the cards. (He is where you'll notice they're REGULAR cards)

But did you spot the EXTRA card? In Jonathan's deck you can clearly see the index corner of a 7 of Hearts, SECOND from the BOTTOM.

As for how he conceals whatever indifferent cards get reversed by the spectators whilst under the table, is still baffling me.

If you remember, Derren allows Jonathan and Jane to spread the cards themselves. This will obviously reveal BOTH the pre-reversed 7 of Hearts.....but I still can't figure out how they didn't see the indifferent cards they ACTUALLY reversed themselves.

That part of the trick has me stumped. Fair play to Derren. Great trick im sure you'll all agree.

At this point can I mention being careful about not being too explicit in terms of how such things are done? Very close to exposure.

Magic Drummer, In order to do any of the tricks Deren does you would have to combine psychology and magic and do it with the right presentation and personality (which is part of the psychology). The point I'm trying to make is don't try to 'be like' derren brown as his talent and effects comes from years and years of study and practice of both magic and hypnosis and to put all that effort in, just to be a copy of derren brown seems quite pointless, you'd be better of learning hypnotic and magic techniques to create your own style of magic.

Invoke not reason. In the end it is too small a deity.

the trick is quite amazing yet very bold. I can see how he's done it and it's very, very, very clever indeed.

I have been performing this for around 8 months now. I will say it does NOT use DF's and it does use 2 regular decks. One blue and one red. It can be a different card each time if you really wanted it to be. Depends on how you want to present it. The solution is simple but clever. I think everyone is trying to look too deeply into it. Derren has used a simple fail proof method and covered it in his own style of presentation.

It seems to me very much like an effect called Blind Luck which I nearly shelled out about £15 for a DVD of, before working out for myself by watching a demo vid how it was done. It has gone down very well whenever I have performed it and probably requires some of the same setting up that Derren has needed.

In Blind Luck (the version I watched anyway) there is a subtle/unsubtle (depending on your level of knowledge and expertise?!) way of flipping *their* reversed card back over. But Derren never touches the cards. Hmmmm...

Brethren, do not try and figure out Derren's methods because you will only hurt your head thinking about it. Just enjoy it for what it is; a supreme - nay, divine - piece of entertainment. Derren is a god and the rest of us mortals can only worship the ground he glides upon. Image
