From the sound of it, Derren isn't as fond of us as we are of him... :P

Does that also mean that he isn't fond of himself?

*Sigh*

Society might have evolved (although I am far from sure), but the Sun hasn't.

Also, for a 'news' item, it's about seven months late. In fact, the news item Mike posted refers to him already having come out, so it might have happened even longer ago.

Be wary of the sun website, you end up with those dreaded tracking cookies.

I found out this morning when my girlfriend texted me "Have you seen the news about Derren Brown?" (cos I'm a huge DB fan, who isn't?)

My initial thought was that he'd blown his brains out for some mental trick or something like that.

Far be it for me to be judgemental, but you could be on to something there.

From a performers point of view this is quite an accurate analogy, once we know the secret the puzzle is no longer interesting, save for a few of those outstanding perfect effects.

On the other hand to the spectator, if performed flawlessly the magic still captivates and envelopes the audience with awe.

Hmm. I don't totally disagree with him but I think there are many - as there always are - who don't fulfill this stereotype, and I think it's rather uncharitable of him to mock those who share common "ancestory" as it were. :?

All this on the same day I come out as a straight man. What are the chances?

Does it really matter? No
Does it create a buzz the week before the new series? Yes
Has Derren made magic/mentalism hip & funky? Yes

Let's get on with life safe in the knowledge that all is well in the world, well almost everything.

I told my gf I was going to leave her and run off with him. She just gave me that look that your partner gives were they tilt their head slightly, raise their eyebrows and make a single, slow blink. I'm sure some of you know the look!

Every so often when Derren has a TV special on, friends or people I know from my local drinking establishment ask the fabled question

"Hey, whats Eugene's surname?"

good luck to him...

no one can choose what who/what you fancy...maybe after a year he's just settled down with someone...hope he's happy...

no one should give a monkey's cuss, enjoy and love what you want to - and get on with life...good luck to him!

I dont think that this really makes any difference, and, the quote about derren not appreciating magicians, believe, has also basically been said before by him. In his video for the devils picture book he says he doesnt do anything like this anymore (Card tricks) as it bores him. I think by what he said he means he's just sick of doing that sort of thing and is progressing into his own field... which i believe would be mentalism and not magic :S though i guess deep down they are both rooted in the same place. Anyway. Go derren, at least he has the courage to do this in the first place.
