I know someone who has a couple of guns and is not a responsible adult...infact he's an alcoholic who burnt down his house and while trying to help him I remembered about the guns, it was very scary.

Dave just sent me this link to a cycling forum.

The whole issue to me is just crazy. If it's really the case that you can't feel safe in the US without a gun then all I can say is, I'm so glad I'm British.

I agree with you all the way...but there are times when I dont feel safe and I can understand why people feel more protected when they have something to protect themselves with.

Agreed, Lommy. As we all know, there are no violent crimes in the UK.

That's not exactly what was said, we all know there are violent crimes all over this planet - many of them not using firearms at all. In the UK there's a worrying increase in the carrying and use of knives amongst youngsters, even those at school.

Let's face it, wherever you are in this world, you're rarely far from potential violent crime.

Anyway, we can all quote statistics and score points with sharp remarks so how about we turn this thread into a discussion of what could possibly done to reduce such crimes and the carrying/use of weapons?

Reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Homer gets a gun and uses it for everything including opening beer cans.

Haha I love the simpsons

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

and there was a bit in "my name is Earl" where Joy wants to kill him because she finds a tape of him reading his will where he says he will give her everything and she goes to buy a gun
The owner says
"theres a 3 day waiting period" and she replies "damn it where can I get something that I can walk out of here with and kill someone?"
"Aisle 3" she ends up buying a crossbow instead

In Canada it is also considered somewhat anti social to shoot people although it does happen from time to time. Usually because of guns that are smuggled here from the Excited States of America.

Canadians consider the Americans to be somewhat mad over their obsession with guns. How can someone who drinks heavily be allowed to keep a gun in his home? Or someone who is mentally unstable? Yet it happens all the time in the US. No wonder the rest of the world marvel at the stupidity of it.

Any country where they allow people to buy guns as if they were bars of chocolate has something wrong with it. I like Americans but they do NOT live in the best country in the world despite their constant bleating that they do.

I would never want to live in a country where you have to pay thousands of dollars for medical treatment that would be free in Canada or the UK. Or where it is considered normal to own firearms.

I think it really is about time America came under British rule once again. It does need to improve itself somewhat.
