Cards have "magic trick" written all over them. When stabbing through a $20 bill in Cambodia, the shock value is awesome. Not that I have anything against cards, but I'm just looking for a couple more items for a 1-2 min quickie street routine.

I'm not sure what that's meant to mean. So are you trying to convince them that if you say, stab through a $20 bill, you're doing it by voodoo or something? Anyway, you can perform plenty of mind reading effect with cards using a simple force..... I appreciate that maybe you want to use something different to cards, but I've got to disagree with your first point.

If somoene pulls out a deck of cards at random and starts showing you something with it, one usually realizes you are being shown a magic trick. If someone pulls out a pen and poises it above a piece of paper, you ask yourself "wtf is this wierdo doing?"
Another thing against cards is sometimes there is a language barrier. Not having to talk is sometimes great.

And after you have done your quick pen through bill effect, they will usually realize they've been shown a trick![]()
Not wanting to labour the point here, but have you never heard of a colour change? or an ambitious card routine? No speak needed there. Even if they think "ah a magic trick", after the first phase of your ACR, or a colour change, you'll have their attention and usually the "wtf" reaction.

Also where in SEA are you going? I used to live in singapore and went back there recently for hols. I met a fantistic bunch of magicians who could teach me a thing or 1000!
