Jack,

You noticed too !! You need the art and craft type shop that sells paints and pastels. The spray is used for fixing and stopping stuff getting smudged. I've also used it on cards I've printed off on the printer and it gives an extra coating to stop ink smudging.

I've had my can since about 1994/5 when I had to give a touch up spray to my Nudist Deck I bought from Keith Bennett. Its since had numerous resprays. So has my ID. Don't put on too many coats because you get to the point where you can't spread them.

I have been complaining quite a while now about how the finnish post refuses to deliver aerosol cans through the mail. I'm just gonna have to find an alternative here in finland ( I dunno where I could get that model airplane stuff)

I used some repositional spray on a pair of cards and I now have a pair of very stuck together cards. Doh!

I guess I need a lighter dusting or some Letraset 103 or some of that other stuff.

If you can't find rouphing spray something that works just as well and can be found at just about any modeling store is "clear low gloss model paint" which gives the same basic effect and in my experiance works just as well

Just a warning apply moderatly or the layers in the card will cause the "mindbender" effect and in this case, we wouldnt want that

But in the same sence you can order the spray online try many modeling shops

Online here (Decent price)

I just want to say I had written out a long insightful post about the benefits (lack there of) in using all these products in a closed in unventilated area. But my concious got the better of me. as I thought about somebody coating an entire deck of cards in roughing spray (I am older and have been in magic for ever and still call it roughing spray even though the cans with the label that cover the original label all say roughing fluid) in the wrong conditions and seriously getting sick over it. If you are ever going to pay attention to warnings on chemicals, this is a good place to start. Unfortunatly you will get this c*** (not the best) into your lungs before you pass out.

I've been experimenting a little with aerosol cans recently too.

I bought 3M spray mount....doesn't work
I couldn't find the Testors Dull Cote mentioned earlier in the thread either and many were a little vague as to EXACTLY what you can buy in craft\art shops...
Apart from Letraset 103...

Going along the same lines as the Testors Dull Cote I went to my local Games Workshop and bought a jar of Matt Varnish from there....didn't work....

I've settled on a cheap £2.00 option from B+Q. Now it's a little old fashioned in that it's a fluid and not in a spray tin but to be frank, it doesn't take that long to slap it over a deck of cards with a brush.

My personal new favourite is.....

drumroll please....

Humbrol Matt Cote. A little tiny 28ml bottle will easily do several decks!

Roughing spray.

Postby mialuca » Jul 19th, '08, 09:37

I recently made a boob by describing a locator card in some detail, and was criticised for seemingly exposing to much detail for that i apologise.
Do any members think that discussing Roughing applications to cards is also to informative, after all we like the audience to think we have normal cards.[/i]

I don't. Because a non-magician (I hate the term layman) wouldn't have a clue what roughing a deck acheives.

There's a lot of magi-folk who think the same way unfortunatley.

Yeah that model plane stuff is great. And is available at a hobby shop, do you not have magic shops in the UK?

To follow on from bmat - you really do need to spray in a good vented area, preferably with a face mask too. Don't try in a confined space such as a bedroom!

Secondly, trying and experimenting with different substances is a waste of time and is expensive! Just buy from a reputable magic supplier who will have tested their product and know that it works. this saves ruined decks as well as having tins of spray hanging around that you'll probably never use again.

Experimentation is also key as too much spray and your cards will warp, too little and it won't work, but at least you can give another light coat.

True Bmat, but magic dealers are also making a fortune by just re-labelling something and almost doubling the price. And that's nearly double retail price - "normal" retailers will also be making a profit!

No harm in one person trying a product and benefiting the greater good. In the absence of either of the products definitely recommended on this thread, I took a gamble today on "plasti-kote krystal clear, matt" - currently got an old deck drying off after it's first coat so I'll let everyone know how that works out.
