Why should magic instruction manuals be available in libraries?! It's a scandal that the great unwashed can get their hands on my precious secrets for free!

I think that if people take the time to go to the library, find the magic section, and actually read a book, only to find that they have to return it next week, they're likely to then go out and actually buy the book.
I got my first look at RRTCM at my library, and I later bought the book. I'd like to see other people's opinions though.

I'd buy it! If you get it from a library you can't go back to it, plus books on amazon are so cheap it's worth it. I got mine for £6 with a load of other books and free shipping.

The book is great!! I've had it for months, but never looked at it! After all the talk on here I picked it up and started reading. I thought it was going to bore me to death and confuse the hell out of me. But I can't put the darn thing down. It's almost 1am... Ahhhh!

I hate the feel of the pages though! Something about non glossy paper drives me crazy!

Anyway back to my reading.

It was in a public library that I discovered the Alkazar book. Since then, I have purchased many copies of it for students - people sincerely interested in learning magic. In my own library is a first edition, hard bound - nobody gets that one!

And, my apologies, Fox, but I don't care for glossy pages. (At least, not in magic books.) For my money, these books are manuals, to be written in with liner notes. To annotate.

Most folks will shout, "Sacrilege!"

But, our books are no different than any other student's books. We are all students of magic, regardless of years in the field or in our private study (whatever that private study may be - and yes, it can be a bedroom). So, don't be afraid to make notes in your books.

(Although, glossy pages will make you think twice about fouling them.)

(And they smudge.)

Good luck on your journey.

Mike.

Noo you can take notes on glossy paper!! Like yearbooks and stuff! You just use on of those ultra fine sharpies and its all good! Normal paper feels horrible, it's too thin and gritty! Don't worry though! It wont stop me reading the book.

i have a notebook for each magic book i own...they're all in one big crate...

i hate a hatred for dust covers on hardback books for some reason...they just annoy me...13 steps is sans jacket on my shelf, black and gold...classy and mysterious...

i thought da yoof of today would rather cut off their benefits than step into a library?! thought it would be their kryptonite...our secrets are safe...

only the smart go to libraries - and hopefully they're smart enough to not share the secrets...

My local library has a nice selection of magic books. Got a good few Karl Fulves self working magic books out from there before buying the better ones. Couple of history of magic books as well.
