London Meet-aid

Postby greedoniz » Sep 23rd, '08, 10:32

Good day,

I'm here to talk to you all today about the London TM meet and how it needs your help.
The Tm London meet has been running for quite sometime now and has become a fixed date in the monthly TM calender but recently due to complete lack of interest this, now traditional, drink and magic fest is under threat.
Once a mighty display of the best and brightest of TM it has now been whittled down to a few tired and old TM'ers such as myself and the forgotten Markdini.

So if you live in London remember to please give generously

Visit http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic16858-915.php for more details on how you can help

Thank you

£2 a month do?

I would come, but I don't drink, and it seems that what it revolves around!

"I want to do magic...but I don't want to be referred to as a magician." - A layman chatting to me about magic.

i think that one of the problems with this,, is often the date.
I for example wouldnt ever think of going up town on a mid week, or towards the end of the month when cash is tight.

Yes I must admit that drinking does go on but it is certainly not mandatory.
We have had several regulars attend who did not imbibe ethanol of any sort. We do however insist on a sense of humour, personality, clean underwear and smoking crack

The next meet is planned for Sat 4th Oct

It is I , don't worry folks I am not staying long....

But in recent conversations with the Great Greedoniz the man who put Ma in to magic. We have discussed what was the highlight of the magical calendar, The TM monthly meet , some of you may say its Blackpool others will say the I,B.M convention and Simon Shaw will tell you it is Ipswich of all places! But I spit on all them.

The London meet up is the place to be. In meets of the past there has been :

A rather interesting train journey of mystery, well kent
A visit to a magic shop
Chilli sauce melt down
More beer sunk then George Best could handle will out on the lash with Ollie Reed.
Rock n Roll
Sex

And of course Magic, entertaining all and sundry in pubs, bars and kebab shops across London's west end. Collectivity we must have performed for over 1000 people. What is better then having your peers on hand to give you good advice after you finished a set, what will give you confidence like having some of the top magicians in London standing behind you and saying go on son.

We also help each other with routines and sleights it is a worth experience and it don't cost much. All we ask is you talk basically and take some gentle ribbing. Its learning in the trenches at its very best. You could go out and keep back LIVE [I/] or you could sit at home perfecting a DL and putting it on youtube. But is that really what its about? I say No sir , the rush of adrenaline , the admiration of your audience and biting the bullet and doing something on your Saturday. Or you could just be a youtube magician, then wonder why people take the Mick when you say you do magic and ask if you do kids shows.

It is often said people don't care about what we do, well if we are not taking it on the streets, bars, pubs and houses of ill repute who will?

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.

IT is true

Dini is perhaps the most unsociable people I ever met but he still makes the effort to come down and offend everyone.

London Meet-aid is on 4th October. Try it you just may like it.

The Meet ups are whatever you wish them to be as there is no itinerary set down and people of different skill levels and knowledge. you may learn something, you may teach something or you may just have a good laugh with a newly met person.
What you ogt to lose other than a few hours on a saturday?

I will vouch for the fact that you don't have to get completely drunk (unless your name is Agecroft, or Greendoniz, or AbraxIAINus.)

Indeed, Mr Dini only has a couple of pints (bless him, probably couldn't handle any more), Magic Monkey drinks not very much, Beardykins didn't drink at all because we took the mick out of his girly drinks, and I sometimes don't drink much (if you consider a flagon on ale not too much!)

As Dini said - there is a great opportunity to perform, brainstorm, pick up tips and ideas. It is also a nice social meeting and a good atmosphere.

So, you London Meet Virgins, come along and get your cherry popped at the next meeting, you will enjoy it!
