TTs - What's the best

Postby Johnny Bravo » Oct 12th, '04, 15:25

I purchased a Blendo TT recently from e bay but find it a bit to small, when it's on my thumb I sometimes have a real job getting the bu**er off.

Can anyone recommend a decent make as all the ones on e bay are around £1.99 which is a great price but I'd rather pay a bit more for realism & a decent fit.

Also with a TT when you put it on in your pocket how do you get it on the right way? Half the time I put mine on sideways or back to front which makes it stand out a mile.

Also does anyone know where I can get a index finger tip?

Apologies if this is in the wrong area or has been discussed elsewhere, I did a search & found nowt!

Thanks.

Vernet brand are quoted as being the best and there are various versions on sale from just about most on-line stores such as cards4magic, emagictricks etc. You can try bargainmagic for price comparisons but, to be certain of a good fit, you'd need to visit a 'real' shop and try them out. Suppliers such as cards4magic have stands at various exhibitions or magic days so just ask them when they're likely to be out on the road. I think Ipswich might be the next place but I could be wrong! Personally, I find the best place to park it is that little ticket pocket in the front right pocket of my jeans. The inner seam is great for wedging it when it needs to be left behind!

Also you can increase the size of your TT by stretching it. This is best achieved by puuting it in just boiled water for a minute and then if you can stand the heat placing it on thumb and really pressing it down. If you can't stand the heat use something else to place TT on and stretch.

play" (Peter Lorenzo)

Yes magic shops, but where be they.

I did a web search for some t other day but could only find online shops. Searched this site but still nowt. Can you point me towards any, particularly in Sussex?

Magic conventions/Fairs. Are these like computer fairs, record fairs, loads of stalls all vying for our money with bargain prices ( :D eyes gleeming :D ) Can you point me to where any of these are taking place.

Sorry to keep asking so much. Ta

The Card Collection do a terrific selection of TT's - they are in Kent. They will also be at the 2004 Annual Ipswich magical Society Convention this year (as will many other sellers of TT's).

So not only would you get to try TT's at your leisre you would get to see the immense, the miraculous, thecharming cheeky chappy himself, Mr. Andy NYMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (the crowd goes wild)

It would be good to see a few Talk Magic Users there...

Very few real shops remain but it's a case of Googling or Yahooing until you find details of one. The conventions and magic days are a bit like record fairs and there are bargains to be had so they are worth a visit if they are close enough to you. Blackpool next Feb is a biggie but there may be smaller ones before then. Ask Clive at cards4magic.co.uk and he'll tell you which ones they're doing, similarly Peter Nardi at alakazam.co.uk, or Morley at Kaymar (mail order or in person only) - all regulars on the circuits and their details are either on line or via internet searches. Big warning - your wallet is in serious danger of being emptied once you get to these convention trade days!

The absolute best way to get a TT that fits is to go to a shop and peruse their TT selection to find one that fits. Or, as has been suggested, go to conventions and look at the possible selections that may be on offer there.

I believe that it's Patrick Page who uses a WAY oversized TT. In his video on TTing, he explains how to use it properly, since you have to do a pinch move to secure the tip when stealing, rather than relying on a snug fit to do the job. Jumbo tips can be found in many of the cyber shops, you just have to be patient and look around...Or, try e-mailing Davenports and tell them that you are looking for an oversized TT (only if, of course, you are!).

Speaking to the positioning of the TT when putting it on the thumb: To be completely honest with you, it simply does not matter. The tip should never be seen. In fact, you should be able to work with the tip if it is neon pink or neon green, and never be caught. The fact that the hand with the gizmo can be openly shown empty (with proper technique, of course) is just a bonus of the TT and nothing more. Also, normally, when using the TT, it shouldn't even be on the thumb at all.

If, however, you don't want to get into all of that and you have a problem with the positioning which is calling attention to the TT, then I suggest that you hold something in your hand that will cover the TT, until you can get yourself into a spot where you can reposition the gizmo. In other words, if you are doing a trick that uses a bill, then hold the bill with the dirty hand, fingers to the front, TT to the rear, and it will hide the tip enough that positioning won't matter. The same with a silk, a cigarette, or whatever you're working with.

Hopefully, this has been of some help to you...

Mike.
