Yes, yes - America is the only source of c*** (not the best) and moral depravity. We should learn from history and the pillars of the goodness and honor of those such as Henry VIII, Edward I ....

Let's not forget that you are calling for a return to decency and morality after saying two guys should be decapitated and displayed as target practice for making a prank phone call.

Believe me, I'm no fan of Russell Brand - in fact, I think he's a terrible comedian. However, don't blame his awful comedy on us. Our prank phone calls are much funnier!

It's nice to see that the "lady" in question is keeping a dignified silence, and of course the Daily Mail is being as even-handed and non-hysterical as ever.

Nobody comes out of this whole mess very well, except perhaps for Manuel. Pleez Meester Fawlty, eet's not my fault!

I expected severe castigation from my post, but didn't get it. I noticed that over 90% of over 50's wanted them both sacking in a Daily Mail poll but less than 50% of under 30's thought so.

I think this sums up the decaying, or loss of, morals of the younger generation. In a few years time, I would like to see how Ross would react to someone making such coments about his daughter, but then again, it may well be acceptable then :? Unfortunately.

And I used to think my granddad was an old fuddy duddy ?

Yup, I've ordered my pipe and slippers and will promise to watch Emmerdale and Heartbeat instead of Come Dancing with a Seleb and Big Brother (puke !!) :?

No it doesn't at all. Remember that you're referencing a Daily Mail poll. Other than the Telegraph it's the most reactionary, racist, right wing paper in the UK. A poll of its readers is a poll of tw*ts, not a poll of the majority of the country.

I remember The Sun recently did a poll of its readers that showed 90% wanted to bring back hanging, but you have to remember that's 90% of SUN readers, not humanity as a whole.

Russell doesn't seem to curry much favour in these parts. I think his comedy is wonderful and he's probably my favourite stand-up since the late, great Bill Hicks. I'm going to see him next week and am intrigued to see how his act changes in front of an American audience.

You just did  !

I'm still missing what's actually happened here, as far as i know all Mr Brand has done is ring Manuel up and say "ha ha, i've slept with your granddaughter". is it much worse than that? no one seems to go on about him being a rapist anymore...

Well, unless you have some kind of evidence about that comment Lawrence; i'd tread carefully...

It's rather a harsh label to stick on someone don't you think?

I'd rather brand him (hohoho) as someone not anywhere near as funny as he thinks he is.

Ah, that'll be why people don't go on about it then, fair play!
I really should actually read some news sometimes shouldn't I!?

So, what's actually going on with the Manuel business?

Latest info is that Ross has indictated he'd like Andrew Sachs as his first guest on his show when it finally resumes after his ban is up next year. Sachs says he'll need to talk about it with Ross first but he's not averse to the idea.

am i just being a bit of a twit here........did they not call up a guy in his 70s and revel in telling him they pumped (or at least brand did) his granddaughter......im sorry but thats disgustingly immoral

now i love edgy comedy and (as i have said on here before) think sadowitz, hicks etc are both brilliant comedians.........but if you went to see their act then you knew what you were getting and if you didnt like it you could leave, yes ??

but......they phoned a guy in his house and gave him both barrells.....now in that case they are both way way out of line

and dont give me this nonsence that someone should have pulled it or sensored them. they are big boys and should have known it was just plain wrong to do

plus it is a criminal offence you know.......so if jonathan ross thinks hes having trouble with his Rs just now.......id like to see him sharing a cell with a 23 stone lifer called marigold.........admit it that was funny

Interesting - I have to totally disagree with you there Spuddy!

Firstly, people seem to think edgy comedy = swearing. Comedians have been swearing for... ooh... quite some time now. Edgy comedy is called precisely that because it's on the edge of what the majority see as acceptable. So it will make some people say "that's immoral", "that's disgusting", "that's too far" occasionally - that's the point. I'm not saying it's always good, I'm just saying... to say "I love edgy comedy, but that's too far, and at least with (such-and-such) you knew what you were getting..." seems a bit of a contradiction - maybe in the 60s the F-word was edgy, but not anymore

And secondly, I believe censorship is *exactly* the problem here. Ok, with Ross, perhaps they hoped he was long in the tooth enough to know better, but they hired twice fired from radio, nymphomaniac, Russell "Silliness and Going to Far is My Middle Name" Brand. They knew they were playing with fire and it's exactly what they hired him for - to be edgy and to reach an audience they were failing to reach before. But to do that, you've got to have trust in the systems that are in place to stop your tempestuous starlet from getting you into trouble, and that's what failed here.

My biggest worry is that through this, the BBC have shown that their own system of investigation and discipline is a joke, and they are open to being bullied into ham fisted measures, which may mean that they stop taking chances on comedy like Brand provided. I may not be a Brand fan, but I welcome new, creative and yes - edgy - stuff. If that happens, it's going to be "My Family" on at night, and I really will stop paying my license fees. :?

I completely understand that when you're having a laugh, you get carried away, but they both said they were sorry, get over it....

completely blown out of proportion, it was pre recorded so the person(s) that allowed the broadcast to be aired should take full responsibility for it (and I understand that they have by resigning), Brand and Ross as they've apologised should be given a slap on the wrist and a warning but not suspended,
I read that according to lovefilm Brand's live dvds are in demand due to the scandal so it hasn't harmed his popularity and I don't think it will harm Ross's either once it all blows over.
I listened to it on youtube, I didn't complain even though I thought it was tasteless but what hasn't been mentioned is that Georgina Baillie is a member of the burlesque dance troupe the satanic sluts and she's hardly innocent plus I think she's using this whole scandal to gain popularity.

Spud, I agree entirely with you. They were both party to ringing up an OAP and being rude and vulgar, and which you rightly say, is illegal, in fact its a criminal offence.

I feel ashamed that the legal system hasn't locked both of them up, and thrown the key away. And those that sanctioned it should be treated with the same contempt and punishment, but at the end of the day, they were the instigators, and should pay, not the ones who agreed to it.
