Magic Wise I'd have to say most any of the items you see on that wish list from Mr. E but most especially ASTRO #304; FORMAL LIFE READINGS; and there are a few other things I wouldn't mind within this frame of thought, like http://www.equilibriumshop.com/seance-trumpet-23-p.asp; you'll also find two Axtell puppets on my wish list that I'd love to have... especially the skunk (in that I've made a Vulture that's ok for now)


Non-Magic Things?
The biggest "need" I have is to have my PC overhauled & up-dated (she's running slow and having some problems after four years of constant service); I need a new iPod Nano (actually, one of the older 4 g models; I don't care if it is used, so long as it works); and last but not least I desperately need a new Recliner for my front room (the one I have is on its last legs).


HOWEVER I do have one huge want...

I want to see everyone on this forum enjoying life to the max. I want you each to know happiness and the sense of true contentment, even when starring adversity directly in the eye.

Our world is getting turned up-side-down at present and as many have pointed out, it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better. This is not the kind of thing most of us have ever seen or experienced that is why I wish you every kindness and the ability to find your inner-strength when it comes to the sacrifices we all will have to make, knowing that in the long run, it will be for the greater good -- a "healing" that will help us to break away from some of the outmoded courses of thinking and doing and possibly do away with much of the more corrupt mannerisms found within both, government and big business.

My wish... the biggest gift you all can give to me and to one another, is the light of hope as well as joy that radiates from your own heart and outward, affecting each and every person you encounter either face to face or in the forums, in a positive and inspirational way. For this is what will pull us all through the darker days that lay ahead.

Cheers Kolm. Basically, I dropped it and it seemed fine. I tried to play a track from the top half of the song list and it just froze. It just wouldn't play. So I backed up, tried a different song from the bottom half, and it worked fine. It seemed like half the music was deleted. I tried once more, it froze completely so I pressed Menu and the center, it started to reset and then froze on the reset screen! I let the battery run down, plugged it in too charge and it is just stuck on the same screen. Been 2 days now.

My iPod has been singing it's swan song for almost 2 years now, but seems to stubbornly cling to life! If it's beyond it's warranty and (like mine) has that kind of iPod disease that means soft resets don't work and hard resets don't seem to prevent it from happening, I found a decent solution.

Usually you just have to let the battery run totally out, then boot it up again - very annoying as it means your 'pod is out of action for a while. So try this: prize the thing open, find where the battery is (lower left), and find the red and white little power wires - somewhere there's a clickity thing where they connect the battery to everything else. Pull it out, wait a bit, and push it back in. Voila - the ultimate reset. It may wipe a few playlists etc. that were on the temporary memory, but otherwise it'll be fine and boot up normally providing there are no other problems. And your battery can keep it's charge

Don't buy ipods - everyone has them, and the screens on most are awful. Buy a Zen Creative, bigger screen, easier to use, they look pretty and are cheap. Just upgraded to a X-Fi. Some have a wireless connections too.

Anyway, i recently blew a few hundred pounds on magic. So there's nothing i want really. I also bought a new tv, hmdi/hd ready. New specs. New netbook. I honestly don't want anything else.

Apart from a smile from the baby Jebus obviously.

Why on earth would Mr. Browning want Practical Mental Magic?!

So, i don't want everything - as i seem to already have it. I've even ordered a nice present for the parents. A big old lcd tv for them. So there, take that recession!

I'm not expecting anything magic this Christmas, although I wasn't expecting anything magic for my birthday last year but my Dad went above and beyond the call of duty - braved my local magic shop (which I can imagine is pretty intimidating) to ask what I might like, and surprised me with the Card Stunts DVD and an excellent book on table-hopping! I was pretty touched actually.

But anyway, I have one definite and two maybes. Double presents - one of the few advantages of a recently broken home!

1) Digital camera to replace the one that was nicked (was looking for an excuse to upgrade anyway!)
2) Maybe - a mini food processor thing, with a very exciting feature that I won't bore you with, and
3) Maybe - chinese cleaver. Before you ask, yes, I will use it.

Bananafish: I make a lot of pretty authentic curries, which involves grinding my own spices. Coffee grinders are OK at dry grinding, although some of the moisture present in freshly toasted spices often rust the spindles which are designed for only dry use. But the main thing is, many recipes call for the spices to be ground into a paste with some water, which coffee grinders cannot do.
So far there has been one product on the market - the Revel wet and and dry grinder - that can do it sufficiently. I have one of these, and they're not bad, but they're extremely noisy, and a bit plasticky - it's already showing marked signs of wear. Also, the chamber size is very small, so although it says you can make dips, grind onions etc. in it, realistically you'd need to do it in 10 batches to make anywhere near a decent amount.

However! Cuisinart have released a mini-prep processor. It looks like a tiny version of the classic magimix, and can be used to chop onions, make dips etc. in suitable portions - still obviously not huge, but enough for a couple of people. So obviously it can handle wet foodstuffs. (In this respect it's a bit like the "mini chopper" attachment you often get with stick blenders).
But the best feature is that it has a reversible motor, and the back of the blades are blunted, but designed to grind. So you press one button, the motor turns one way and sharp blades cut stuff, press the other button, the blades turn the other way and grind stuff, meaning your nice sharp cutting blades aren't blunted on hard spices, nuts, coffee or ice etc.

Needless to say, for someone who frequently wants to chop, grind and paste small amounts of things, this is a dream machine


Robbie- clearly nothing gets past you! I'll use it for, y'know... cleaving stuff. I tend to buy whole chickens and cut them up rather than prepackaged bits - works out good value and I can buy happy chickens. But it's much easier if you've got a decent cleaver for the spine...

Farlsy, I'm loving the sound of that grinder. It certainly sounds much easier than my current method of a mortar and pestle.

the one thing i would love to get this christmas is a hair dryer.

i wont, because nobody knows, and i handed out my list ages ago.

Its only recently that ive been wearing a beany hat in the mornings, and when i get to work, i take it off and have seriously bad hair days, because it was slightly damp from my shower!

If it pitches up on the 25th I'll do you a review When I actually get a paycheck sometime next september ( ) one of my first purchases will be a blendtec or vitamix blender. Those things are insane. Unfortunately, they're also about £400.
