Mostly I do two or three effects with DC. If at a table, I will always do the main effect followed by the drawing dupe.
For a group, more often than not, after I do the original effect everyone is wanting a go and I will do the "clump of cards" effect with three or four people. I love doing it this way, it is fun and everyone gets involved. If doing this I don't reveal the whole film as in the original effect, but just aspects of the film. If they havent seen it - aspects of the poster.
Sometimes if there is only time for one effect then DC is perfect.

I never imagined it was - we are all entitled to our opinion and what works for some doesn't work for others. I respect your frankness.

An interesting point and one I was asked a few times by people that bought DC.
If I do get asked as to the origin of the cards, I would say that they were giveaways at my local dvd shop whenever I took two or more dvds out in one go. I would go on to say that I have loads, and these are just a few from my collection.
However I have to honestly say I am never asked, and I have performed DC an awful lot. It is nice to have a backup plan in case I am asked for sure, but I certainly don't see a need to volunteer the information up front. You aren't the only person that expressed a concern though.
I should also mention that if using DC I seldomly do other effects with it, although recently I have been experimenting with a bit of coin bending as well.
I certainly don't see DC as a one off effect. I see it as a utility device for a plethora of effects. I have used DC for parlour perfomances on occasion and when I do this, then obviously I do other effects as well.
