Sexton we ended up staring at the same gates and we were in a taxi, the highlight of my night apart from watching the look on peoples faces whilst Evanna performed her piece (which was great) was that hansome man who A.J. Hypnotised and turned in to a serial killer oh yeah and DAT's solid chop cup, my other half loved DAT's routine (and I can tell you it takes alot to imperss her) and we both loved his rope work that he did at the table. I missed my other half telling Beard he was a big girl for squealing at DAT's rope work though

I can rarely work that out myself. In philosophical terms, I've completely given up: in practical terms, I rely on the name label sewed into my underpants.* I was also quietly stroking my chin trying to guess who (apart from the performers, who rather gave themselves away) might be who. I think I might have worked out Mandy, but I'm not positive. An additional problem, however, was that I was forcing myself to avoid getting into any situation that would have led to proper 'magic talk': I was there with my S.O., and for her to have to stand there while I and [whoever] went magic geek would be like my having to hang around listening to people jabber excitedly about traction engines or golf.

Talking of tables, what was that huge roar from Dat's? He'd done his act by this point - it was when everyone was at their tables chatting during one of the interludes; he, it seems, was doing a little close up for the people at his table. All of a sudden there's a massive whoop, and we look over to see Dat - satisfied smile on his face - casually putting his cards back into the case. But we've no idea what he's done. From the sudden explosion of noise, it sounded like it must have been Card to Someone Else's Mouth or something.

*Tip: this isn't accepted by airport security.

Highlights for me were:

Reveiving a one-off hard back copy of my Paranormal Entertainer book from Evanna!
Dat's classical routine.
Anthony Jacquin hypnotising Reverand Tristan, and the look on Tristan's face at the final revelation.
The intense atomosphere invoked by Evanna's routine.
And the look on Chris' face when I pulled Dr. Death out of my bag. "No," he said. "Yes," I said.

Apart from that, the whole evening was totally wonderful, as great as I'd hoped it would be, and proof that these wonderful events can be turned from bath-time musings to glorious reality if one just knows which kind of fairy dust to sprinkle over things!

A huge thank you to everyone, performers and audience alike, for making it a great night.

BTW People took photos! I know - I saw the flashes! Post them for heaven's sake. I'm dying to see them!

Yes. I can't believe he uttered the words, "Up yours Jacquin." Bad rabbit.

Although the event will of course be open to members of the public (where else would we get our willing specs from?), this event is very much a Talk Magic jolly boys and girls outing!

Taking place at Middleton Hall, very close to Drayton Manor Park near Birmingham, the evening consists of a two course silver service meal in the great hall followed by coffee. Parlour magic for the evening will be provided by the following: David Taylor MMC (known as "Dat8962" on Talk Magic) will be enthralling us with a demonstration of "classic" magic, Anthony Jacquin - hypnotist of "Reality is Plastic" fame - will be regaling us with his awe-inspiring mesmerism, and up and coming female bizarre performer Evanna will be enchanting us with a journey into the dark side! The evening will also be hosted by little old me. But you can't have everything.

The theme of the evening is a recreation of a 1900's magical soiree. A night of magic, mystery and smog shrouded elegance! Dress for dinner if you like (in fact it's kind of encouraged) in your finest threads - or just come as you like. Nothing is compulsory. I myself though will be in full black tie regalia! I need no excuse to get all dressed up!

Tickets and details can be found on the Fright Nights website
http://www.frightnights.co.uk/events/index.php?cid=1545
Tickets can be purchased from Fright Nights on-line or via the telephonic talking device.

Tickets for an evening in a grand mansion with a two course silver service meal and four magicians performing parlour routines cost just £59. Please please please try and support this event. If it works there'll be more to come I promise.

And yes. There is a bar. Open all night. :D

i actually excited to see this kind of magic, its will be amazing event again for me ,

I really enjoyed the event. Great to meet Paul Bell. I thought he was the perfect host and I really enjoyed the other acts. The food was pretty good too.

I did what you should never do and road tested a new routine mixing up mentalism with hypnosis - I hope it was understood and enjoyed. Creating psychopaths in trance can be fun :)

I thought it was very good too. I especially liked the presentation of tying it to 'police psychics'. It gave it a sense of purpose - a 'demonstration' or 'investigation' vibe - which I think is always A Good Thing: it lifts whatever one is performing out of the reach of 'Just doing stuff'.

I was worried that Evanna was going to knife you when you'd finished, though. (Because she was going on later, also, she'd only now discovered, with a Cluedo-themed effect.) Had I been her, I would have knifed you. (I know it wasn't your fault; you had no idea Evanna was going to do a Cluedo thing as well. Still: I would have knifed you.) Luckily, she's steadier of spirit, and her (lovely) presentation was completely different in feel - spooky and narrative, rather than scientific and psychotic.

In fairness, now I've been specific about you and Ev, I ought to mention PB and Dat too. I'll grudgingly admit that PB was entertaining, but it is only very grudgingly: I didn't get a balloon puppy, you see. That's not something a person can easily forgive. As for Dat, I'll just say that when his act finished one of the lay humans at our table said quite simply, "Well - you can see why he's 'award winning'."
