Ellusionist's Expanded Coin Shell

Postby LiQuiDBuLL3TZZ » May 14th, '09, 23:14

Hello. I have a few Questions:

1) What company is the coin shell from...i was looking around other forums and they mentioned Johnson and Tango...

2) Is there any preparation required to use the shell?

3) Can you use a borrowed quarter?

4) Is it durable?

5) What are the disadvantages of the gimmick?

I recently ordered it and i wanted to gather some info on it before it comes...

Thanks!!!

To give you a lazy reply...

I ordered the expanded half dollar shell and they are the best shells I have ever ordered. Tango's stuff is very bad in comparison (but I only had tango products in Euro's so that may have something to do with it).

No prep that i know of is needed to use it,

They work just fine with borrowed half dollars,

It's as durable as can be when you consider what it is, just dont put them in a situation where they may get flattened or have an edge dented.

Disadvantages.... None. Providing your good with your slights clean up is simple. The ONLY thing to be aware of is the coins "talking". But if you have your routines well practiced it shouldn't be a problem.

Some guy called RS initialed the insides of mine. It was the best buy I ever had from Ellusionist (and the last as well as I have an on going issue with the customer service team.... wouldn't recommend trying to deal with them I can tell ya).

Hope you enjoy your shell's when you get them.

answer to 2,4 & 5 is always keep it over a regular coin and were possible in a stack of coins. :)

No prob's dude, it's a very under used tool by magicians (at least the ones I know).

There is a one coin/shell routine in Bobo's book that is a great starter and I did it for a magician friend and he was floored by it, and I only did it as a gag! When you start dropping it into Matrix routines etc, then you'll see it's true worth.

Enjoy!

I second that! Should have put it down in the first post, I carry around two shells and five half dollar coins all the time in Josuha Jay's excellent case. Just keep the shell over the coin and it's happy days.

I had a euro coin bite before (from Tango) and it was awful, American coin versions would be better I reckon, just make sure you have plenty of back ups of it secret as they do tend to break easily enough.

Last time I purchased a coin shell (many years ago), it came in a custom-made case to store it in. Failing that, coin shells are quite durable providing you follow magicdiscoman's advice regarding storage.

I got my items yeaterday...

Here are the pros:

Coinbite: Sturdy, feels like an actual coin, has 2 bite sides

ECS: Nice makeup, seems rather sturdy

CONS:

coinbite: has a big carved out area for elastics

ECS: scratches on the face, and a high pitch noinse when it hits another coin.

Overall...they are great!!!

All folding/bite coins have the carve out area

All shells make an odd noise if they talk, even a Lassen one.
