Mornington Crescent - game on!

Postby Wishmaster » May 25th, '09, 13:35

As a long time player, it never ceases to amaze me how many rule addendums there are to this wonderful game.

My favourite is probably the Burlington Original, but the flaw is self evident and precludes beginners from taking part. Therefore, I propose the novice friendly and quite standard Stovold's, based on Mornington Crescent: Rules and Origins - My copy is rather dog eared, but I can gladly arbitrate in any disagreement. Clause 63.5 is a constant thorn in the side of some veteran players and is acknowledged as such.

Would those familiar with the game please refrain from using the Finchley Road shortcut. This is NOT acceptable outside of tournement rules.

So, without further ado, the ever popular:
Elephant & Castle

Using the litttle known Lyttelton Bank holiday amendment to the main set of rules, Samantha is not allowed to travel today. She has gone home to enjoy having it off. So we proceed without Samantha to Waterloo

In that case, Westminster

I assume we are playing with the 1999 editions international rules? Therefore, Grafton Street

We're playing to Stovold, so Grafton Street is not allowed.

Stovold states this game should've been over 6 posts ago!
The only way back is Chancery Lane surely?

As Lawrence says, Stovold ended this game a while back. I find it limits the tactics you can use hugely, the entirety of Ian Diggin's text on tactics is based on the assumption you're not playing Stovold.

Well, Ashford

You're right. It must be Chancery Lane.

Under A"mendments to Stovold" Ashford will also do it, arguably more heuristically than Chancery Lane, that's why I played it.

I'm confused is it Ashford or Chancery ?

Obviously the Higgs retraction clause comes into play here ...... or am I missing something ??
