Your best bet is not to ask us, but to give the secretary of Ilford Magical Society (John Penrose?) a ring and discuss it with him.
I suspect you will find them all a very friendly bunch. I believe that they had Andy Nyman lecturer ealrlier this year and amongst others they will be getting Jay Scott Berry.
According to their website, to join you must be over 16, must attend three meetings and will have an interview.
On approval of your membership, you must perform a trick or a talk on your interests in magic for five minutes.
For further information Contact the President or Andy Fairbairn (ok, so not the secretary).
Although Magic Societies aren't for everyone, I personally haven't looked back, and I suspect that you will find it a truly enriching experience. Good luck - and let us all know how you get on.
