How do I stop cats from using my garden as a toilet? I keep finding little cat-sized poos in amongst the flowers, and now the cheeky gits have started pooing next to the plant pots at the front of the house. My wife sprinkled some black pepper around but it doesn't seem to have had any effect; I think the constant rain is just washing the pepper away. Anyone got any ideas?

A quick Google shows:
orange peel
cat repellant
spray teabags with deep heat n bury them
plant plenty of plants as cats wont go through plants/bushes they prefer space to pee.
plant cat mint in different areas of your garden
put a layer of chicken wire/mesh just under the soil then the cat cant dig.
get a dog

Ok, this a weird one but it works. Fill clear plastic bottles with water and place them at intervals around the edge of your garden where the cats come in. The cats will freak out when they see their magnified, distorted reflection and will not come in. I swear, this is not a joke. An Italian friend of my mother did this to her front yard in London and now apart from having no cats, all the passers-by stop and wonder why she has water bottles around her yard (might be the next tourist attraction! Better than the London eye, any day!)

Lemon rind around your garden normally deters Cats as they do not like Citrus smells. Alternatively you can buy 1 of those ultrasonic Cat deterrents. They omit a high pitched noise which is inaudible to humans but drives Cats mad.

We've got an ultasonic gadget outside our house to keep rats away, it's got a setting on it for cats too.

Believe me, nothing works. I rented a house for a couple of years and the gardens were completely unusable due to the local cats. You could land a direct hit with a stone on the flank of a moggie straining on the lawn and five minutes later it'd be back there in the same spot trying doing the same damned thing. Apparently, killing them as the vermin they surely are is frowned upon!

I used to live in Spain and wondered why people did this for ages!
Unfortunatley if they're coming over the fence it's not easy to balance a coke bottle of water up there!

I have a dog, that seems to work.

On a related subject does anyone know how i can get rid of an infestation of slugs in my garden? They're ruining my crop! (cannot put things like slug pellets down due to having the dog)

Put out several small saucers of beer - slugs are addicted to it, will crawl in, get ratarsed, and drown in a very happy state.

Rock Salt rings around the base of the plants and or the base of the garden.

Salt will kill the slugs they won't go near it and avoid it at all costs. Rock salt in specific won't salt the earth and thus won't kill the crop.

If you use table salt just make sure it doesn't rain otherwise you may find your poisoning your ground table.

Slugs don't like going across metal, we had a Hosta which used to get chewed to bits every year but when we put it in a galvanised steel container the slugs left it alone. Copper strip around the plants works as well - something about the galvanic reaction 'twixt metals and slug slime....
