Noob on the loose

Hello all,

I hope that some day I can contribute, but for now I´m learning the basics.
It all started one christmas about 2 years ago when I picked up a copy of "Tricks of the Mind" by Derren Brown. That was it..... I couldn´t put the book down. I read it several times and eventually about 6 months ago I got round to looking in to the "suggested further reading" section at the back of it.
I have since acquired the Corinda book "13 steps to mentalism", Mark Wilsons complete course in magic, Jean Hugards Royal Road to Card Magic, and a few others.
The trouble is getting the time to read all of them!
I´ve already destroyed a few decks of cards by practising so much with them. I´m pretty hooked on this new hobby. I´m looking for a few good books to ensure I get off to a good start in certain areas. These areas are:

Cold Reading (I´ve heard Robert Nelsons "The Art of Cold Reading" is good so that´s the first book I´m going to read

Hypnotism - I´d like to read a GOOD book that gives a decent practical guide on how to get started (although I suppose any good book will start by explaining what hypnotic states are, and any dangers involved etc etc).

Oh, I´m in seville, Spain and with any luck will be trying to get in to the local magic circle.

All suggestions welcome!
:D

Hi Owen, and welcome.

You've got all the right books to learn this art form, I wouldn't rush out and buy any more, as you have pretty much the main arsenal of material in your possession. Just take time, learn and practise what you've all ready got, you'll be suprised whats in these books!

Have fun mukka

Hiya, welcome to TM.

As Taffy has said, you've probabaly got enough books to keep you going for a while there. I wouldn't worry about any other books just yet.

Welcome to TM Owen.

If I were you, I wouldn't go out actively looking for books to buy. If you spend enough time on this forum you'll find yourself buying loads without even thinking about it.

IT'S A CURSE, A CURSE I TELL YOU!

Seriously though, you have everything you need to start off with and just by browsing the different areas on TM you'll find out what are the recommend titles for whatever it is you want to achieve. The reviews are often very good at telling you what you shouldn't bother buying too.

Hello Owen,

I too suffered from the noob requirement of acquiring way to much reading material too quickly.

Please listen to the experienced gentry and ladies and read what you have.

I'd also hold off on RIP as Ant has put out a new video set and as soon as it arrives I'll let you know if its better than RIP.

I'm sort of a purest when it comes to hypnotism I wouldn't pick up RIP until I had a good understanding of what hypnosis is and how it works.

RIP is a great mechanical book.
