I just did a spoon bending routine while running on the treadmill at gym!

The word has spread at the gym that I'm a magician. One of the trainers came to me as I was about to start training and asked me to do some magic. I made my locker key disappear etc. and then said if wants to see more he must come to a resturaunt this evening where a couple of other magi and I will be. I happened to mention spoon bending and his eyes went wide so I said if he could bring me a spoon I'll show him.
While I was running on the treadmill he brought me a spoon - along with a couple of the other trainers. So I took it and did a basic bend (while running). His reaction was classic - so I went on and got it to bend further, then twisted it, then did the whole spoon 'melting' and breaking thing. It worked really well and I was on quite a buzz afterwards. It made the excercise go really quickly.
Ok - I know I'm giving myself a bit of a pat on the back here - but I had to share it with someone :D

Well done - a true magician indeed! I can't even do spoon bending standing still or lying flat out so 'on the run' is more than excellent - perhaps you could start a whole new idea of running cross country magic?

Makes me wonder what unusual situations others have done magic in?

I would love to do spoon bending. Is it difficult? Where is a good place to learn? And don’t say at the gym ;)

Now that will make for an interesting thread - any takers?

Spoon bending is quite easy from a technical point of view. The 'real work' is in the presentation, psychology ect. A good place to start is Banachek's PK Silverware, and then I'd say Patrick Kuffs' "Metal bending - the real work". Richard Osterland's Mind Mysteries 3 has some cool stuff, as well as Banachek's PSI series - I think it's cd 4 - all on metal bending. Guy Bavli's "bending minds, bending metal" is also really good. And then of course there's the gym..

I recall seeing a lift act a few years ago called the pineapple boys (or similar). They were three or four blokes performing a variety different things from singing, dancing and acting in elevators. Very unusual and reminds me of C4's Monkey Magic's - magic in confined spaces routines.

Would be interested to hear if anyone has done similar with their majic and how it worked as I am thinking of doing something similar myself for charity.

Ahahahahah great topic :D! Congrats there taneous, I'm sure you were really, really happy!

Well I do many street magic stuff (98% of em are with cards, and 1% coin, and another 1% with whatever is around me), and one time I went to the town with a friend of mine who don't see magic often. Just so you know, this guy is known as a loudmouth, harsh, and snobby. But he's still a friend so yeah.. it was a fortunate/unfortunate event. So anyways, I pulled out a deck of card to practice false cuts, and he saw it and he asked for me to do magic.

And my god I can tell you, he laughed a little kid after I saw an ambitious card routine. So I showed him some more, and he laughed even more! Then there was this guy (who seemed have been having a bad day cus he's been frowning the whole time) who looked at the tricks and he smiled, so I asked if he wants to take part of it. He was like.. well I'm getting off the train soon so I wouldn't have much time. So I well I just showed him the two card monte, and he flipped and laughed heheheheh (it felt really great, ya know), and he actually asked if I can show him some more. So I showed him a trick that I kinda thought of (which I'm sure many of you have thought of as well), that he picks a card, put it back in, cuts, and check the deck just to find his card disappear. The climax came with the color change, and good thing I used berthram change cus my friend and him laughed so hard seeing that.

From my experience, I found that perfectly done color changes are the closest thing to real magic (to laymen).

All in all, I thought it made the trip more enjoyable :D!

Following on from this, I did some table magic at a local restaurant last night and performed a cut and restored rope trick which I find very popular. Anyway, one of the waiters couldn't take his eyes off what I was doing and at the end he disapeared into the kitchen and retuned seconds later with a piece of string and a challenge / question to see if I could do a cut and restored string.

He obviously thought that this would not be possible and no doubt the diners thought the same judging by the chuckles (obviously those who do a cut and restored routine will know that the principle is the same only string is much fiddlier).

I took the string, cut it into three and with a great deal of carefull handling I restored the string to a single piece in front of their eyes. The three (by this time) waiters and the restaurant manager said that what they has seen was impossible and I got a round of applause from the whole restaurant and a few requests for my card that I wouldn't have otherwise got.

VERY pleasing when something like this happens and you can rise to the challenge!

Strangest Practice for me has been practicing a coin roll while driving in my car. Good way to practice but I suggeest you rather not try. And Placing on and Escaping from different sets of hand cuffs that I had just received while talking to my friend on the phone. He thought this was really amusing after finding out what that Krrrt Sound was. LOL.

With Perfoming I would say, my fork bend at a Restaurant here in South Africa. I did a Fork bend routine at one of my regular spots (with my own fork as I do not wish to damage the property of the Retaurant). When the Manager saw what was happening he sent one of his waiters to get one of their forks and asked if I could do it with that one. It was difficult as their forks are Very expensive, so you can imagine the quality, but I did it. Now I cannot pass the restaurant (on my days off) without the waiters and manager asking me to come entertain some VIP's with the Fork Bend.

Anyone Else?

Wolflock - what fork bending routine do you do?

I do the Liquid Metal routine and find that I get people coming up to me afterwards and asking how I channel my pyschic energy into the fork and all that stuff. Makes me chuckle and I just go along with it.

I've find the easier bits to do when handed a quality for are stil the tine bends and I've also found that this is just as good as going through the whole routine again in most instances as it serves as a demonstration which is what people are generally asking for anyway.

I do the Routine from Banachek's PK Silverware.

I actually had one lady keep the one unbent fork in front of her. While chatting I calmly picked up the fork and was playing around with it, As some of you could imagine. I then calmly placing it back down when she grabbed it from me and carried on talking. I just played innocent  . She then turned to her friend who had come from the bathroom to tell her what I had done with the other fork. This is how her explaination went, "... ant then he h\just stared at the for and it bent. He just stared like this... (at this point she stared at the fork which she was now holding whic was now bent. She completely freaked out and dropped the fork) stay away from me (this was to me now), you are weird!!!" Every time I offered to give the fork to her as a momento, she ran.
I of course loved every moment of it.
